The technologist possesses knowledge and skills in sterile and aseptic technique. The Surgical Technologist also demonstrates knowledge of numerous surgical procedures so the needs of the surgeon can be anticipated.Essential Job Functions:Organizes and prepares case set-up prior to start of case. Identifies and communicates unusual techniques and instruments required for surgery.Cleans, assembles, operates, and properly cares for instruments, supplies, and equipment used in team specialties. Demonstrates an understanding of surgical procedure classification system and handles operating room specimens according to standard operating procedures.Provides patient care, according to diagnosis/procedure, utilizing the procedure cards and following established hospital policies and procedures.
