We're seeking a Senior Software Engineernear Westbrook, Maine to join a team developing software for advanced diagnostic instrumentation. This role focuses on embedded software development, C++, ARM processors, Embedded Linux, Qt GUI development, real-time systems, electromechanical controls, device software, and platform migration.
The primary project involves porting the user-space application of the CatDx diagnostic instrument to an updated Embedded Linux platform. This touchscreen-based system uses a Qt user interface , and internal engineering teams are responsible for the embedded subsystems and kernel drivers. The successful candidate will focus on porting the existing C++ sequencing, control, and user interface code to a new compiler and updated platform while ensuring performance, reliability, and maintainability.

What You'll Do

• Port and modernize existing C++ and Qt-based applications to an updated Embedded Linux platform.
• Design, develop, test, and maintain embedded software for diagnostic and electromechanical systems.
• Develop software controlling motion-enabled subsystems, instrumentation workflows, device operation, and user interfaces.
• Create and enhance Qt graphical user interfaces and touchscreen applications.
• Design, code, test, and troubleshoot software using Object-Oriented Programming principles.
• Collaborate with engineering teams throughout product development, from prototype through production release.
• Analyze system behavior, troubleshoot software issues, investigate root causes, and implement solutions.
• Develop algorithms and software features that account for system constraints, workflow requirements, and hardware interactions.
• Create technical documentation, design specifications, and software release documentation.
• Support product quality, performance improvements, and continuous software engineering best practices.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Strong experience with C++ development in embedded environments.
• Experience developing software for ARM-based processors .
• Experience with Embedded Linux or Unix-based operating systems.
• Experience developing applications with Qt and Qt GUI frameworks .
• Strong Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) skills.
• Experience reading, understanding, and modifying existing C++ codebases.
• Experience with software debugging tools and root-cause analysis.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and within cross-functional engineering teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with real-time embedded systems.
• Experience developing software for scientific, diagnostic, laboratory, medical device, or electromechanical products.
• Familiarity with UML, MATLAB, SQL, JMP, or related analytical tools.
• Experience with scripting, automation, data visualization, or systems analysis.
• Experience supporting software throughout the full product lifecycle, from design through production deployment.
