Description

American Traveler is hiring a RN - Med/Surg Tele for a 13-week night shift contract requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele experience and NIHSS certification.

Details

• Medical Telemetry unit with 27 beds and an average census of 20
• Patient population includes stroke, COPD, chest pain, altered mental status, and GI bleed cases
• RN to patient ratio of 1:5-6, acuity dependent, with surge ratios up to 1:7-8
• 12-hour night shift schedule, 1900-0700, 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend rotation required
• No on-call or call-back requirements
• Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Philips monitors
• CNA support available for foleys, IV discontinuation, vitals, and ADLs
• Daytime receptionist/HUC support, with 24/7 phlebotomy, RT, and hospitalist coverage
• Charge nurse may or may not carry a patient assignment
• Telemetry monitoring/tech support available
• No designated IV/VAT team
• Floating required within Region 1 facilities as needed, within scope of practice

Requirements

• Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 18 months of Med/Tele experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
• Skilled in stroke assessments, chest tube management, PIV starts, trach care, cardiac rhythm interpretation, and NGT placement
• Experience managing drains and tubes including Dobhoff, PEG, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, and foley catheters
• Experience with PCA pumps and medication drip management including cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, and IVF
• Epic EMR experience required
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration
• Minimum of 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

• Provide comprehensive nursing care for Med/Surg Tele patients including monitoring, medication administration, and procedural support
• Facility is a 109-licensed-bed hospital with no trauma designation and is not a teaching hospital
• Facility is designated as an Advanced Primary Stroke Center
• Positive, team-driven unit culture
• Orientation includes New Employee Orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Free parking available
• Travelers will work approximately 75% of holidays
• First-time travelers not preferred but may be considered for resource team placement
• Local candidates not accepted; must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
• Previous employees must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year after working a permanent position
