As a Patient Care Technician Assistant - PeriOp at MercyOne, you support the professional clinical staff by providing direct patient care and performing studies and tests as assigned by the physician or RN. These duties may vary by shift or may be unit‐specific. You will serve a population ranging from neonate through geriatric. Employment Type Full time Shift 12 Hour Day Shift Schedule 12-hours Days 5:30 AM – 5:00 PM Responsibilities Transport patients in a safe and efficient manner; includes checking patient identification and reviewing chart for basic requirements. Perform or assist patients with personal hygiene such as perineal care, oral hygiene, back rubs, making occupied/unoccupied carts, obtaining meals, sensory devices (i.e., hearing aids). Assist patient with ambulation. Assist patients in dressing/undressing. Assist patient with elimination needs (i.e., bedpans, urinal, ambulation to bathroom). Empty catheter bags and colostomy bags. Measure and record temperature, pulse rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure, measure and record height and weight. Answer patient call lights and respond appropriately. Perform special procedures including positioning and maintaining patient in correct and safe alignment. Collect and label urine specimens. Perform urine HCGs. Measure and apply PAS stockings. Perform order entry in computer. Apply elbow protectors and anti‑embolism stockings. Perform pre‑op shave prep as needed. Assist with room preparation for anticipated admissions. Communicate changes/information regarding patient's physical/mental condition to RN. Maintain patient care and unit supplies. Calculate and record intake and output (excluding IVs). Set up and assist with simple wound dressing changes. Stamp patient records and obtain paperwork and records. Transport patient belongings. Perform bedside blood glucose testing. Set up equipment and supplies for sterile/non‑sterile procedures, including sterile bladder irrigation. Set up nasal cannula O2 delivery system; change humidification bottle. Deliver specimens to Lab; obtain blood from Blood Bank. Perform phlebotomy following prescribed policy and procedure. Perform 12‑lead EKG or rhythm strip. Perform post‑mortem care, as needed. Education and Certifications High school diploma or GED required. Previous experience in medical setting preferred. Ability to read, write and speak English language. Basic Life Support certified within six (6) weeks of hire. The acceptable credentialing body is the American Heart Association. Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to population served within three (3) months of hire.
