About Prominent Hill

Prominent Hill is a well-established copper-gold operation within BHP’s Minerals Australia portfolio, with a strong future and ongoing investment.

Located 650km north-west of Adelaide, the site operates across underground and surface mining on an 8/6 FIFO roster.

A major shaft project is supporting underground expansion and extending mine life to at least 2040, creating long-term opportunities across the operation.

It’s a technically complex site where you can build your skills, take on new challenges, and be part of a team where safety and looking out for each other matters.

We currently have a vacancy for an  Emergency Services Officer (12-Month Fixed Term Contract) , reporting to the Emergency Services leadership team .

The Challenge Ahead

We are seeking an experienced Emergency Services Officer to join the Prominent Hill Emergency Services team on a 12-month fixed term contract. This is an opportunity to play a meaningful role in protecting the health, safety and wellbeing of our workforce while supporting one of Australia’s leading underground and surface mining operations.

As part of a highly capable emergency response team, you will provide critical support across fire, rescue, HAZMAT and medical incidents while helping maintain emergency preparedness and response capability across site. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to a significant operational milestone, supporting emergency readiness and workforce health and safety activities linked to Olympic Dam operations in 2027.

Prominent Hill offers a dynamic operational environment where no two days are the same. Supported by a well-equipped emergency services fleet, including ambulances, fire appliances and specialised rescue vehicles, you will work alongside experienced professionals who are committed to safety, teamwork and continuous improvement.

This role is well suited to someone who enjoys working in a hands-on operational environment, values collaboration, and is motivated to continue developing their emergency response capabilities within the mining industry.

What You’ll Bring to the Role

You are a safety-focused emergency services professional with strong technical capability, sound judgement and a commitment to achieving positive outcomes for others.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

• Certificate III in Emergency Response and Rescue or an equivalent qualification.
• Certificate IV in Health Care or an equivalent qualification, or higher.
• Current HR Driver's Licence.
• Current C Class Driver's Licence.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective working relationships across diverse work groups.
• A proactive approach to safety, teamwork and continuous professional development.

The following will be highly regarded:

• AHPRA Registration as a Paramedic or Registered Nurse.
• Experience within a State Emergency Service or similar emergency response environment.
• Experience working within an underground mining operation.
• Drug and Alcohol Testing qualifications.

Key Responsibilities

As an Emergency Services Officer, you will:

• Respond to surface and underground fire, rescue, HAZMAT and medical emergencies.
• Maintain emergency response readiness through the inspection, testing and maintenance of emergency equipment and vehicles.
• Participate in emergency response training programs, exercises and capability-building activities with onsite emergency response volunteers.
• Conduct work area inspections and in-field observations to support risk management processes and verify critical controls.
• Build positive working relationships with operational teams to support emergency preparedness and promote a strong safety culture.
• Maintain and enhance your emergency response capability through ongoing training, learning and professional development.

Work Location

This 12-month fixed term contract is based at Prominent Hill and operates on a FIFO roster from Adelaide or Port Augusta .

You will work an 8 days on, 6 days off roster, followed by 7 nights on, 7 days off , providing a balance between meaningful work on site and quality time away from work.
