Residential Habilitation Counselor (PerDiem)

Job Description AHRC NYC is currently seeking Per‑Diem Residential Habilitation Counselors (RHC) to work one‑on‑one with people in their private homes and communities in all five boroughs. The RHC provides one‑to‑one services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the areas of Activities of Daily Living (ADL) Skills Training Development, Socialization, Recreation and Leisure Activities, and Utilization of Community Resources. The RHC position is a part‑time/per‑diem position with a pay rate of $18 per hour. Shift Schedule Shifts are primarily in the afternoons, evenings or weekend mornings or afternoons. Shifts are usually 4‑6 hours long. Typical Monday‑Friday shifts are 2 pm‑7 pm, 3:30 pm‑8:30 pm or 4 pm‑8 pm etc. Monday to Friday. Weekend shifts are typically 9 am‑2 pm, 10 am‑3 pm, 2 pm‑6 pm etc. Essential Responsibilities Provide patient, understanding, and team‑oriented support to people with I/DD in community participation, advocacy and building meaningful relationships. Teach, provide counseling, solve problems, and assist or complete Activities of Daily Living (e.g., preparing meals, cleaning, attending to hygiene needs). Oversee all safety and health considerations for the person supported while promoting skill development and exploring the person’s interests and hobbies. Work with a person supported on a one‑to‑one basis, or work with people supported in a group setting across a variety of environments. Qualifications Experience with the I/DD population is preferred but not required. AHRC NYC provides additional trainings for those starting or changing career paths. Professionalism; integrity; excellent communication skills; patience; sensitivity and commitment to working with the I/DD population. High School Diploma/GED or equivalent, or completion of certification in HHA, CNA, PCA. Willingness to support peoples preference for community, activities, work, leisure activities, the exercise of their rights, etc. in various settings.
