Speech Language Pathologist

Position Summary Seeking a part‑time acute care Speech Language Pathologist at University of Michigan Health‑West hospital. The role involves 2–3 weekdays plus 1 weekend day per month. Essential Job Responsibilities Provide patient care, treatment, and services within the scope of license, certification or registration and as required by law and regulation. Evaluate patient condition and establish treatment goals in collaboration with patient, family and interdisciplinary team. Create written treatment plan and administer treatment according to the plan. Re‑evaluate patient status, revise treatment plan as necessary and review revised goals with patient and family. Determine need for medical equipment, order appropriate equipment, evaluate delivery, and instruct patient, family, and health‑care workers on use. Participate in patient discharge planning, considering patient, family, community support/services, and environmental limitations. Demonstrate competence in relevant software and hardware required for job responsibilities. Document patient status and progress through evaluation, progress notes, and discharge summary in accordance with established internal/external time standards and reimbursement guidelines. Communicate with others to integrate speech‑language pathology services with all aspects of patient care; participate in conferences and exchange written records with interdisciplinary team members. Instruct patient and family in speech‑language pathology procedures and provide written instructions as necessary. Attend meetings and in‑services as designated. Follow all hospital policy and procedures, including patient confidentiality and infection control. Meet or exceed program productivity expectations. Provide discipline‑specific coverage within the Mary Free Bed system as requested. Adhere to Mary Free Bed Standards of Behavior when working with patients, coworkers and members of the community. Support program operations as assigned. Participate in orientation and training of new staff and serve as clinical instructor for speech‑language pathology students. Participate in program development and/or research activities. Meet or exceed clinical outcome collection standards and clinical outcome performance/improvement goals established by department leadership. Essential Job Qualifications M.S. or M.A. in Speech Pathology granted by an accredited university program. Licensure required in every U.S. State and Territory where practicing or in Clinical Fellowship Year. SLP‑CCC required for therapists in DC, NC, WV, KY, MN, NE, KS, NM, NV, ID as per Medicaid billing requirement. Possesses and maintains BLS certification to meet department/program protocol. Physical requirements: None, Occasionally, Frequently, Majority (as applicable). Specific tasks include remaining in a stationary position, traversing or moving work location, using keyboard, operating department‑specific equipment, ascending/descending equipment or ladder, positioning self to accomplish essential functions, receiving and communicating information, transporting and exerting force up to 10–75 pounds, and occasionally moving more than 100 pounds.
