Three Rivers Treatment Center is seeking a dependable, compassionate, and safety-focused Skills Coach / Resident Transportation Specialist to join our residential treatment team.
This position plays an important role in providing a safe, structured, supportive, and therapeutic environment for the adolescents we serve. In addition to providing direct care and coaching, this position will safely transport residents to medical, dental, therapeutic, educational, and recreational appointments.
The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys working with adolescents, understands the importance of therapeutic relationships, can maintain appropriate boundaries, and remains calm and professional during challenging situations.
What You'll Do Resident Transportation & SafetySafely transport residents to medical, dental, therapeutic, educational, and recreational appointments and activities.
Maintain accurate transportation logs, including departure and arrival times, destinations, mileage, and required resident information.
Conduct vehicle safety inspections before and after transportation assignments.
Ensure vehicles are clean, fueled, and properly maintained.
Report maintenance or safety concerns promptly.
Maintain appropriate supervision and support of residents during transportation and community outings.
Ensure residents follow facility rules, behavioral expectations, and safety procedures while being transported.
Communicate effectively with clinical and residential staff regarding schedules, delays, changes, or incidents.
Respond appropriately to emergencies, behavioral concerns, or crisis situations during transportation.
Maintain confidentiality and protect resident information in accordance with HIPAA and facility policies.
Skills Coaching & Therapeutic Support
Actively supervise and engage students and residents throughout daily activities.
Help maintain a safe, structured, and therapeutic milieu.
Build positive and appropriate relationships with adolescents while maintaining professional boundaries.
Provide individualized coaching in behavioral, social, emotional, and life skills.
Facilitate or assist with groups that promote emotional, social, and personal development.
Recognize behavioral and emotional patterns and use appropriate interventions and redirection.
Avoid power struggles and utilize therapeutic communication and de-escalation techniques.
Encourage positive behaviors and reinforce appropriate decision-making.
Conduct required rounds based on resident observation levels.
Conduct searches and contraband checks in accordance with facility policies and procedures.
Maintain responsibility for keys and ensure rooms and assigned areas are secured according to established protocols.
Classroom & Educational SupportSupervise and support students during classroom activities.
Assist students with assignments and encourage participation in schoolwork.
Help maintain a positive and structured classroom environment.
Monitor student behavior and provide appropriate redirection.
Enforce classroom expectations regarding personal items, computer use, and other facility rules.
Participate actively in classroom activities to help students remain engaged and successful.
Documentation & CommunicationAccurately document resident interactions, incidents, behaviors, interventions, and progress in the electronic record system.
Complete transportation and other required documentation accurately and on time.
Maintain confidentiality of student and resident information.
Communicate observations and concerns to supervisors and members of the treatment team.
Participate in treatment team meetings and collaborate with clinical, educational, and residential staff.
Report significant changes in behavior, safety concerns, or resident needs promptly.
Professional DevelopmentParticipate in required orientation and ongoing staff development.
Maintain required CPR, First Aid, and behavioral management training.
Receive supervision and feedback from clinical and supervisory staff.
Participate in training designed to strengthen therapeutic communication, crisis management, and behavioral support skills.
Follow all Three Rivers Treatment Center policies and applicable regulatory and accrediting standards.

Minimum QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent required.
Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field preferred but not required.
Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a behavioral healthcare, residential treatment, healthcare, or related setting working with the population served preferred/required as applicable.
Previous experience working with children or adolescents with behavioral or psychiatric needs preferred.
Previous healthcare, residential facility, or direct-care experience preferred.
Experience with crisis intervention, behavioral management, or de-escalation preferred.
Knowledge of HIPAA and confidentiality standards preferred.
Required Certifications & LicensesValid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record required.
CPR and First Aid certification required.
Completion of the facility's Behavioral Management Program required.
Must successfully complete required background checks and meet applicable Virginia regulatory requirements.
Must be at least 19 years of age in accordance with applicable Commonwealth of Virginia requirements for children's residential facilities.
Knowledge & Skills The successful candidate should have:Basic knowledge of child and adolescent development.
Understanding of child-care principles and positive peer culture.
Basic understanding of mental health principles and psychiatric terminology.
Ability to develop healthy relationships with children and adolescents.
Ability to consistently apply rules, expectations, and behavioral interventions.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to accurately document information.
Ability to work effectively with clinical, educational, medical, residential, and administrative professionals.
Ability to work independently while functioning effectively as part of a team.
Working EnvironmentThis position works primarily within a residential treatment and educational environment, as well as in facility vehicles and community settings while transporting residents.
The facility environment is well-lighted, heated, and air-conditioned. The position requires active engagement with residents, frequent movement throughout the facility, and the ability to respond appropriately to behavioral and safety situations.
