Registered Nurse – CVICU / Cardio Thoracic ICU

Schedule / Job Type

Contract (13 weeks, possible extension) | Days | 3x12 or 4x12 shifts | Every other weekend, floating, and holidays required | 48-hour contracts available with overtime billed after 48 hours — indicate preference at time of submission | Block scheduling is not available

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in a Cardio Thoracic ICU setting, including care for step-down patients under a universal bed model
• Manage arterial lines, central lines, PICC lines, and continuous IV sedation; titrate cardiac and vasoactive drips
• Monitor and interpret hemodynamic data including FloTrac/Vigileo, Pulmonary Artery/Swan Ganz lines, and dysrhythmias
• Support post-cardiac surgery patients (including direct OR arrivals), CABG, Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump, Impella, and Pre/Post Cardiac Cath/intervention
• Provide neurological care including post-brain surgery and EVD/ventriculostomy management; perform CVA/Acute Stroke management
• Manage ventilated patients including BiPAP, CPAP, HFNC, ventilator management, ABG interpretation, and suctioning; perform CVVHD/CRRT and IV insulin protocols

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of experience in a CVICU or CTICU
• Active Virginia or Compact RN license in hand at time of submission — no exceptions
• BLS certification (American Heart Association only)
• ACLS certification (American Heart Association only)
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Proficiency in Epic EMR required — no exceptions
• Must pass an EKG/telemetry test with a score of 80% or higher prior to start; one attempt is given with no remediation available
• Fit testing required; facility cannot accommodate PAPR — any history of fit test issues will disqualify a candidate
• No prior license or background hits will be considered — no exceptions
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Previous travel nursing experience strongly preferred
• Experience with multi-system organ failure and complex neurological cases including post-brain surgery and EVD management
• Familiarity with infection prevention protocols, isolation precautions, PPE use, and wound/drain/wound vac management
