About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Cardiology/Pulmonary Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of relevant nursing experience required. License: Illinois state RN License in good standing Certifications: BLS (American Heart Association), ACLS (American Heart Association) Must-Have: Telemetry, Trauma 1, and Epic experience Description: The staff Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver. The RN assumes responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame. The RN provides care to these patients utilizing the nursing process, nursing trends, technology, financial and human resources. The RN performs all responsibilities and duties required by the unit specific to the scope of service. The RN implements procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice. The RN maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided. This ensures the integration of information for use by the healthcare team. The RN completes an initial assessment upon patient admission. The RN develops an appropriate plan of care in accordance with unit standards. The plan of care is based on patient and family needs. The RN implements the plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures. The RN modifies the plan of care based upon continuous evaluation. The RN takes responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents. The RN communicates with others directly and in private when necessary to resolve issues. The RN offers constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers. The RN confers with colleagues to expand the knowledge base. The RN identifies own learning needs and takes the initiative to begin appropriate solutions. The RN fulfills all requirements of departmental competencies. The RN manages care of acute and chronically ill cardiac and pulmonary patients. The RN collaboratively identifies patient goals of care. The RN designs and maintains care plans with the patient and family. The RN implements interventions as needed, including medication administration and evaluation of effects. The RN prepares patients for procedures, manages pain, performs IV venipuncture, and administers blood. The RN monitors lab results. The RN discharges patients and provides instruction for safe transition from the hospital. The RN documents all care using electronic medical records. The RN ensures team huddles occur. The RN evaluates patients and delegates with appropriate follow-up. The RN answers call lights and ensures basic care is performed per standards of care. The RN practices conflict management and maintains professional communication with all team members.
