Travel Nursing Job Details

• Position: Travel Med-Surg Registered Nurse (RN)
• Location: Macomb, Illinois
• Assignment Type: Travel nursing contract
• Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,130–$2,250
• Start Date: November 9, 2026
• Contract Duration: 13 weeks, ending February 8, 2027
• Schedule: 36 hours per week; three 12-hour shifts, typically scheduled as nights
• Weekend Commitment: Every other or every third weekend
• Call: No mandatory call; volunteer opportunities may be available
• Patient Population: Medical-surgical and post-operative acute-care patients
• Documentation System: Cerner
• Orientation: Comprehensive first-week orientation with preceptor support, equipment familiarization, infection-control training, and organizational onboarding

Med-Surg RN Job Requirements

• Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for practice in Illinois
• At least 1 year of recent nursing experience required; 3–5 years of medical-surgical nursing experience preferred
• Previous experience in an acute-care or rural hospital setting preferred
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association
• Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
• Strong patient assessment, clinical judgment, prioritization, and critical-thinking skills
• Telemetry monitoring experience, including the ability to interpret and document rhythm strips
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced medical-surgical unit with frequent admissions and discharges
• Commitment to thorough, accurate clinical documentation

Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse Responsibilities

• Deliver individualized nursing care to patients with COPD, pneumonia, cellulitis, congestive heart failure, and other acute medical diagnoses
• Provide post-operative nursing care for patients recovering from colon resections, total hip replacements, total knee replacements, and other procedures
• Complete comprehensive nursing assessments, develop and implement care plans, administer medications, and evaluate patient responses to treatment
• Monitor patients using Nihon Kohden telemetry and independently interpret and document rhythm strips
• Recognize changes in patient condition and promptly communicate concerns to providers and the interdisciplinary care team
• Collaborate with the charge nurse, clinical care coordinator, nursing assistants, house supervisors, and other members of the healthcare team
• Support safe patient admissions, transfers, discharges, and transitions of care
• Assist with outpatient infusions as needed; infusion experience is preferred
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation in Cerner while following unit, facility, and regulatory standards
• Contribute to a positive, team-oriented environment focused on patient safety and quality patient care
