Nurse Practitioner

Position Overview University of Texas Rio Grande Valley – School of Medicine / Neuro & Behavioral Health ISU, Edinburg, TX. Reporting Location: MASS Building 2nd Floor – Human Resources, 1201 W. University Drive, Edinburg, TX 78539. Responsibilities Nurse Practitioner Provide outpatient and/or inpatient evaluation and treatment of well care, illness, and injuries. Perform laboratory review and modify treatment plan as indicated by laboratory findings. Obtain and record complete medical history. Assess patient database, identify biopsychosocial needs, and make appropriate referrals. Perform routine and specialized physical examinations according to departmental protocols. Prescribe medications and other treatments within the APRN scope of practice. Formulate appropriate differential diagnosis. Order and interpret diagnostic and laboratory studies. Develop and establish treatment plan and participate in interprofessional care. Follow up and evaluate client status. Maintain accurate, legible, and confidential records. Participate in quality and safety organizational programs and reviews. Counsel and educate patients regarding health maintenance and disease prevention. Initiate, design, and present educational programs for patients, clinic staff, and other audiences. Perform related duties as required. Physician Assistant Assess, plan, and provide patient care under the supervision of a physician. Perform pertinent physical examinations. Obtain and record complete medical history. Perform routine and specialized physical examinations with assessment of normal and abnormal findings. Formulate appropriate differential diagnosis. Order and interpret diagnostic and laboratory studies. Develop and establish treatment plan in accordance with established protocols and the direction of the supervising physician. Follow up and evaluate client status. Maintain accurate, legible, and confidential records. Participate in quality assurance reviews. Counsel and educate patients regarding health maintenance and disease prevention. Initiate, design, and present educational programs for patients, clinic staff, and other audiences. Assist in public/campus awareness of Student Health Services. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Education Nurse Practitioner: Master’s degree from an accredited school of nursing. Physician Assistant: Master’s degree from an accredited university in a recognized field of science or an accredited education program for physician assistants. Preferred Education None. Licenses / Certifications Nurse Practitioner: Current RN licensure from the Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners and approval to practice as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner. Physician Assistant: Current PA licensure from the Texas State Board of Physician Assistants and current certification from NCCPA. Required Experience Nurse Practitioner: None. Physician Assistant: None, or one (1) year of experience as a Physician Assistant in adult health, adolescent health, or obstetrics and gynecology with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university. Preferred Experience Nurse Practitioner: Experience as an Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner. Physician Assistant: Experience as a Physician Assistant in adult health, adolescent health, or obstetrics and gynecology. Employment Category Full‑Time Salary Commensurate with experience.
