PACU Travel Nurse Job Details Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,250-$2,370 Specialty: Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) / Post-Anesthesia Care Nursing Location: Wausau, Wisconsin Contract Length: 13 weeks Start Date: October 26, 2026 Schedule: Four 10-hour day shifts per week Shift Duration: 10-hour days Hours: 40 hours per week Typical Start Times: 7:30 a.m., 8:00 a.m., or 9:00 a.m., based on unit needs Unit: 14-bay PACU with approximately 35 patients per day and a typical 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio Call: One night per week for four of six weeks and every fifth weekend; 30-minute response time Weekend and Holiday Coverage: Rotating weekends and holidays Electronic Health Record: Epic preferred; prior electronic health record experience required Scrubs: Any color PACU Registered Nurse Job Requirements Active Wisconsin Registered Nurse (RN) license At least 2 years of recent PACU nursing experience in an acute-care hospital setting Recent post-cardiac and pediatric recovery experience American Heart Association BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications Associate degree or nursing certificate required; bachelor's degree preferred Previous electronic charting experience; Epic experience strongly preferred Ability to respond within 30 minutes when assigned to call PACU Nursing Responsibilities Provide safe, attentive post-anesthesia care to patients recovering from surgical and procedural interventions. Monitor airway, respiratory, cardiovascular, neurological, and pain-management needs during post-operative recovery. Care for patients following general, spine, neurological, gastrointestinal, ENT, cardiac, peripheral vascular, and orthopedic procedures. Recognize changes in patient condition and initiate timely interventions in accordance with PACU protocols. Stabilize critical-care patients prior to transfer to the intensive care unit. Administer medications and treatments, document patient progress, and communicate effectively with surgical and interdisciplinary healthcare teams. Support safe patient transitions from the PACU to the next level of care. Participate in scheduled call, weekend, holiday, and callback coverage as assigned.
