Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro Med/Surg position requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience, ACLS, and BLS, with night shift availability.

Details

• Hospital-based Neuro Med/Surg unit with a focus on general medicine and neurological patient diagnoses
• Patient ratio of 1:6
• Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts (18:45–07:15)
• 36 or 48 hours per week accepted
• Contract length of 13–26 weeks
• Every other weekend required (approximately 5–6 weekend shifts per contract)
• Floating required; travelers float first
• EMR: Epic (experience preferred); medication dispensing via Pyxis; communication protocol: SBAR

Requirements

• Active NC or Compact RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Current ACLS and BLS certifications required
• NIHSS certification preferred
• Neurological nursing experience preferred
• Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, IV therapy, peripheral line care, and non-invasive airway management
• Must pass an EKG test prior to start
• Two professional references from a manager or supervisor within the past 2 years required at time of start (pending at time of consideration is acceptable)

Additional Information

• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Previous permanent, PRN, or EP employees of the facility must wait 12 months before applying; disclosure of prior employment dates and facility name is required, and facility rehire approval is needed
• Candidates living within 50 miles of the facility are eligible but will receive a lower pay rate
• RTO is not permitted during the first week of the assignment; no additional RTO may be requested after signing
• RTO is not approved for holidays; candidates must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
• Contract staff may be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters as part of a Storm or Hurricane Team
• Navy blue scrubs required; scrubs are not provided by the facility
• Unit orientation is 24 hours; weekly orientation schedule
• Pre-start online modules required (approximately 8–10 hours for acute care roles); must be completed annually thereafter
• Charge nurse experience is preferred; willingness to learn the charge nurse role is also considered
• Travel pairs are permitted provided they are assigned to different units and each has independent transportation
