Canin Coatings is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Development Quality Engineer to support product quality, development, testing, risk management, and continuous improvement activities across the company's coating and construction-related operations.

The Development Quality Engineer will work closely with product development, operations, project management, field personnel, suppliers, contractors, and company leadership to establish measurable quality requirements and ensure that products, materials, processes, and services consistently meet established performance and quality expectations.

\n

This position is designed as a fully remote engineering and quality role , with responsibilities focused on quality planning, product and process verification, risk assessment, testing, documentation, compliance, and continuous improvement.

Key ResponsibilitiesProduct Requirements & Quality Planning\n

• Support the establishment of objective, measurable, and verifiable product and process requirements.
\n
• Translate customer, project, performance, safety, and regulatory requirements into measurable quality criteria.
\n
• Review product specifications, technical documentation, material requirements, and project standards.
\n
• Assist in developing quality plans for new products, coating systems, materials, and processes.
\n
• Identify potential quality risks during product and process development.

Design Verification & Validation\n

\n
• Support verification and validation planning and execution for new or modified coating systems, materials, application processes, and related products.
\n
• Develop test plans, protocols, acceptance criteria, and documentation.
\n
• Coordinate cross-functional investigations when test results do not meet established requirements.
\n
• Assist in identifying root causes and developing corrective actions.
\n
• Review test results and determine whether products and processes meet defined requirements.
\n
• Maintain accurate records of verification and validation activities.

Risk Management\n

\n
• Lead or support risk-management activities from initial product or process concept through implementation and commercialization.
\n
• Conduct risk assessments related to product performance, application processes, materials, equipment, and field operations.
\n
• Prepare and maintain FMEA, risk assessments, process risk analyses, and other quality-risk documentation .
\n
• Identify potential failure modes and recommend appropriate mitigation strategies.
\n
• Monitor identified risks and ensure mitigation activities are documented and followed through completion.
\n
• Collaborate with engineering, operations, project management, and field teams to reduce quality and performance risks.

Test Method Development & Validation\n

\n
• Support the development of appropriate test methods for coatings, materials, application processes, and product performance.
\n
• Lead test-method validation activities where appropriate.
\n
• Establish objective acceptance criteria and repeatable testing procedures.
\n
• Evaluate the reliability and repeatability of testing methods.
\n
• Investigate unusual or inconsistent test results.
\n
• Maintain testing documentation and technical records.

Quality Systems & Continuous Improvement\n

\n
• Support quality-system improvement initiatives throughout the organization.
\n
• Assist with internal audits, quality reviews, corrective actions, and preventive actions.
\n
• Identify opportunities to improve quality, efficiency, consistency, and customer satisfaction.
\n
• Support the development and maintenance of quality procedures, work instructions, forms, and technical documentation.
\n
• Participate in root-cause investigations and continuous-improvement projects.
\n
• Monitor quality trends and recommend appropriate corrective or preventive measures.

Compliance & Regulatory Support\n

\n
• Support company initiatives related to applicable Quality Management Systems (QMS) , environmental requirements, safety standards, and regulatory obligations.
\n
• Help ensure technical documentation and quality processes remain aligned with applicable industry requirements.
\n
• Monitor changes to applicable standards and communicate relevant requirements to internal teams.
\n
• Support audits and inspections by customers, suppliers, regulatory bodies, or other authorized organizations.
\n
• Maintain accurate records demonstrating compliance with established requirements.

Cross-Functional Collaboration\n

• Maintain positive and cooperative communication with employees at all levels of the organization.
\n
• Collaborate with customers, contractors, suppliers, manufacturers, project managers, and field personnel.
\n
• Participate in virtual meetings and technical reviews.
\n
• Communicate quality issues and technical findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Provide engineering and quality support to project and operations teams.
\n
• Assist management with special quality and engineering initiatives as assigned.

Qualifications\n

\n
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.
\n
• Minimum of 1–3 years of experience in quality engineering, product development, manufacturing engineering, process engineering, construction materials, coatings, or a related technical discipline.
\n
• Experience with quality-management principles and structured problem-solving methodologies.
\n
• Experience preparing risk assessments, FMEA, root-cause analyses, or similar quality documentation.
\n
• Strong understanding of verification, validation, testing, and quality-control principles.
\n
• Experience working with technical specifications, product requirements, test procedures, and quality documentation.
\n
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
\n
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
\n
• Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.
\n
• Ability to work independently and effectively in a remote environment.

Preferred Qualifications\n

\n
• Advanced degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
\n
• Experience with coatings, paints, construction materials, adhesives, sealants, or specialty chemical products .
\n
• Knowledge of epoxy, fireproof, elastomeric, protective, or architectural coating systems.
\n
• Experience with construction, commercial facilities, or specialty contracting.
\n
• Knowledge of requirements-management and quality-management software.
\n
• Experience using problem-reporting systems such as JIRA or comparable platforms.
\n
• Working knowledge of statistics and their application to testing, quality control, verification, and validation.
\n
• Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, CAPA, 8D, DMAIC, or other continuous-improvement methodologies .
\n
• Experience conducting supplier-quality evaluations or audits.
\n
• Quality engineering or professional certification is a plus.

Compensation\n

• Annual Salary: $82,000–$108,000
