JOB SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Assistant Director, the Special Programs and Outreach Coordinator provides program support to the Center for Students with Disabilities (CSD) enhanced services programs, Beyond Access and UConn GPS. Beyond Access (BA) offers individualized services that go beyond standard college-level accommodations to help students bridge the gap between access and success. In addition to collaborating with the Assistant Director to coordinate BA, the incumbent will provide strategy instruction to a caseload of BA participants to support the development of academic, social, career readiness, communication, and problem-solving skills needed to succeed in a rigorous academic environment and prepare for life beyond college. The Coordinator will also assume responsibility for UConn GPS, a pre-semester program that facilitates a successful transition to university life for first-year and transfer students. Through three days of activities, workshops, and social events designed to build familiarity with the UConn campus and available resources, attendees learn about college expectations, prepare for the semester, and develop strong connections with peers. In addition, the incumbent will serve as a key representative of CSD and its programs, providing training on disability and accommodations to UConn faculty and staff, and engaging with current and prospective students and families, secondary schools, and community partners to share information about CSD and its enhanced service programs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides one-on-one strategy instruction to a caseload of students participating in the Beyond Access program by presenting individualized learning strategies supporting the development of executive functioning skills (e.g., time management, organization), academic skills (e.g., notetaking, test-taking, studying), social engagement, stress management, and other related skills to promote student development and self-determination in social, emotional, academic, and daily living realms.

Contributes to the professional development of Graduate Assistant Strategy Instructors by serving as a mentor and resource and facilitating occasional training sessions.
Assists with developing new enhanced service programs and supporting special projects, which may be ongoing and require planning, coordination, and supervision.
Manages routine communication with Beyond Access participants including notifications of policies, deadlines, events, and opportunities.
Communicates with UConn staff and faculty to provide training and raise awareness of disability, accommodations, CSD procedures, and CSD’s enhanced services programs. May serve as a liaison to assigned departments or groups.
Engages with current, prospective, and admitted students and their families/guardians through individual communication and meetings, information sessions, panels, and college fairs to provide information about accommodations, CSD procedures, and enhanced services programs.
Conducts outreach to community colleges, secondary schools, and other parties (e.g., educational consultants), which may include proactive communication regarding disability services, enhanced services programs, and college transition; attends conferences; and develops and coordinates related events.
May assist with CSD registration and connect students with campus resources as they relate to procedures for campus change, readmission, and university appeals (e.g. dismissal and academic adjustments).
May assist with operational functions at the CSD as needed, especially during peak times such as finals week. Tasks may include answering phones, greeting students and visitors to the Center, copying, filing, and other related duties.
May assist with coordination of approved accommodations as needed, especially during peak times such as finals week. Tasks may include exam administration, proctoring exams, scribing or reading an exam, hiring note-takers and other related duties.
