Director, Corporate Strategy (San Diego / Hybrid)

Illumina seeks a Director of Corporate Strategy to lead high-priority, cross-enterprise strategy engagements and advise senior leadership on critical business questions. The role operates independently across R&D, Product, Commercial, Finance, and other functions in a hybrid San Diego position, reporting to the Senior Director of Corporate Strategy.

Responsibilities

• Lead enterprise strategy engagements independently from initial framing through executive recommendation
• Define strategic questions, develop alternatives with quantified implications, and recommend enterprise priorities
• Gather and validate market, competitive, scientific, financial, and operational evidence for decision-making
• Engage cross-functional and regional leaders to integrate perspectives and surface disagreements through evidence
• Advise senior leaders and ELT through working sessions, decision-ready materials, and executive presentations

Requirements

• Demonstrated experience leading complex, cross-functional strategy projects from framing through executive decision
• Proven ability to synthesize evidence across multiple business functions and develop enterprise perspectives
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to pressure-test assumptions and challenge organizational views
• Experience presenting strategic recommendations to senior executives and boards
• Excellent project leadership and team coordination skills without formal reporting authority
• Ability to reside in San Diego area and commute to corporate offices 2–3 days per week
