Access Specialist | Patient Access Representative

You will be the welcoming face for patients and their representatives, gathering accurate demographic and insurance details to support clinical care and reimbursement processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet and interview patients or their representatives with warmth and professionalism.
- Collect and verify insurance and demographic information accurately for medical and financial records.
- Obtain proper admission consent and authorization to treat, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory standards.
- Use electronic verification systems to confirm insurance details and resolve discrepancies before finalizing registration.
- Inform patients of their rights in accordance with federal, state, and accreditation requirements.
- Respond promptly and effectively to patient inquiries, maintaining confidentiality at all times.
- Collect applicable copays and direct patients to appropriate treatment areas.
- Recognize registrations requiring pre-authorization or pre-certification and validate all necessary documentation.
- Maintain accurate documentation and support billing processes by understanding registration and denial requirements.
- Ensure compliance with Medicare Secondary Payor rules, HIPAA privacy standards, patient rights, and other regulatory mandates.
- Communicate professionally with patients, healthcare providers, and coworkers, fostering a positive environment.
- Organize and maintain patient information, workspaces, and admission areas efficiently.
- Demonstrate accountability, adaptability, and professionalism under pressure while meeting attendance and punctuality standards.
Education
High school diploma or equivalent is required. Preferred candidates will have a certificate or diploma in Medical Front Office, CNA, or Medical Terminology.
Experience
At least six months of experience in office, call center, customer service, or healthcare settings is necessary. Proficiency with computers and standard office equipment is essential.
Requirements
Ability to focus on detail and perform tasks under time constraints. Physical ability to stand, walk, sit, reach, assist and transport patients in wheelchairs, and lift up to 10 pounds. Comfortable working in a standard office environment with occasional exposure to noise, fumes, and other conditions. Flexibility to work varying shifts is required.
