This position is being filled ahead of the planned retirement of the current Warehouse Supervisor. This position will initially serve in a Supervisor-In-Training role, working under the guidance of current Warehouse Supervisor. During the succession and training period, the successful candidate will gain familiarity with departmental operations, procedures, and responsibilities before transitioning into the Warehouse Supervisor duties.
Job Summary (Overall Purpose of the Position)
The purpose of the Warehouse Supervisor is to direct warehouse activities to ensure the efficient and economical utilization of facilities. The Warehouse Supervisor creates purchase requisitions, receives, stores, and distributes materials, equipment, and supplies, and exercises proper controls of same.
Job Duties - Responsibilities – Tasks
Planning
Continuous review of procedures to determine most efficient and productive method of operation.
Integrates and uses technology for requisitions, issues, receipts, transfers, salvages and stock status inquiries.
Plans and coordinates transfer of materials between warehouses. Works with satellite warehouse personnel to ensure material is managed in a timely manner.
Maintains acceptable material usage ratios based on work order activities and acceptable emergency criteria.
Materials Management
Maintains adequate levels of materials inventory. In addition to adequate levels of inventory, adequate levels of personal protective equipment, safety equipment and supplies will be maintained as well.
Receives and records incoming material from suppliers. Compare receipts against orders and inspects for compliance with specifications and damage or defects. Makes arrangements for return of defective or damaged goods.
Issues proper materials to crews as specified by staking sheets and records appropriate charge out tickets for proper issuing.
Receives returned and salvageable materials that are returned to stock and determines whether materials are usable. Coordinates the disposal of obsolete or junk items.
Disposes of surplus materials, equipment, supplies and salvage in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Determines disposition of salvaged oil-filled equipment in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Supports the review and update of standard material units.
Establishes minimum and maximum levels of stock for all items of material and reorder as needed.
Controls
Promptly reports theft of materials.
Conducts monthly inventory counts and reconciles any discrepancies at the main district warehouse, as well as all gas and electric satellite warehouses in the district.
Assigns, stencils, and records Company numbers on transformers and capacitors. Records serial numbers and assigns MWE numbers and reports same to Finance Department.
Maintenance
Provides for the maintenance and timely repair of warehouse equipment (may include, but not limited to: vehicles, fork lifts, hoists).
Assures that fire extinguishers, AED, and First Aid kits in facility are inspected and maintained on a regular basis.
Makes arrangements for distribution transformers tested for PCBs and submits records to appropriate personnel.
Requisitions new and/or replacement tools, schedules tool maintenance and manages warranty on all tools within district.
Safety
Promotes safe working habits and enforce all safety rules and regulations of Midwest Energy, Inc. Leads by example in safety compliance and take corrective action on safety violations, defective equipment, and any other practice that may adversely affect a safe working environment.
Manages the Fire Retardant (FR) clothing process.
Qualifies himself/herself in first aid, CPR, AED and defensive driving.
Supports annual forklift training and certification forklift operators in their area.
Coordinate testing of all gloves, sleeves and cover-up (monthly, quarterly, and annually), to P.E.T. and reissue upon return.
Regularly completes facility inspection looking for potential hazards and/or safety violations at the main district warehouse, as well as all gas and electric satellite warehouses in the district. Individual will correct problems they can immediately, elevating remaining problems to his/her supervisor.
Ensures that directed employees receive required training in safety aspects of their jobs.
General
Prepares required reports accurately and on a timely basis for the Purchasing and Accounting departments and reconciles any discrepancies.
Maintains and updates GHS data for products that are stored in the warehouse.
Assist IT with troubleshooting problems for Material Management Software and test software upgrades as needed.
Keep informed regarding new developments, trends, and best practices in relevant field. Recommend changes, initiatives, etc. to management for effective processes and procedures within the company.
Keep apprised of changes and developments in pertinent local, State and Federal laws, ordinances and rules, and take appropriate action to stay in compliance with said rules, regulations, etc.
Performs other duties as directed.
Relationships
Develop and maintain internal and external working relationships for maximum effectiveness in serving Midwest Energy customers and communities. Ensure communication and exchange of information so as to present a positive corporate image, both internally and externally. Keep management informed of issues that might impact the work environment.
Maintains a close working relationship with other warehouse personnel and departments to assure company goals are met.
Maintains external relationships with vendors. Communicates with suppliers and sales representatives in placing and checking the status of orders, returning goods, and exchanging information as needed in a professional manner.
Employee Development
Plans, assigns, and directs daily work of the warehouse.
Observes effectiveness of attendants and provides timely feedback to manager of any relevant performance-related information.
Assists with training sessions pertaining to safety and proper work procedures as needed.
Familiar with the Union contract, company policies and procedures.
Education and Experience
High school graduate or equivalent required.
Two years of post-secondary education in business or related field preferred.
Should possess knowledge of basic accounting principles.
At least three years of experience as a stock clerk, warehouse attendant, or equivalent preferred.
Previous utility experience desirable.
Key Competencies
Ability to become familiar with Company List of Materials and Construction Specifications within 12 months.
Should be skilled in the areas of organizing and planning.
Ability to handle a variety of diverse tasks and organize work to meet deadlines.
Good leadership skills are essential.
Excellent communication skills are required to work effectively with vendors and other personnel in the Company.
Ability to become familiar with reading staking sheets within 6 months.
Must possess a valid Kansas Commercial Driver’s License (Class B) and must be certified to operate a forklift or other comparable equipment.
Must have strong analytical skills.
Must be experienced in using a computer and have working knowledge of Word and Excel.
Ability to learn Materials Management Software.
