Job Title: Senior Research Assistant - MCG-Neuroscience and Regenerative Medicine Location: Augusta University Regular/Temporary: Regular Full/Part Time: Full-Time Job ID: 299613 Job Summary Conduct research on Alzheimer's disease, neuropsychiatric disorders, and the microbiome using transgenic mouse models. Performs drug treatment and behavioral tests to mice. Develops hypotheses and methods, collects mouse specimens including brain and peripheral organs for histology, molecular and biochemical analysis, performs stereotactic surgery, complex chemical, biological, cytologic, microscopic, histologic, surgical, computational and dissection procedures. Manages transgenic mouse colony and small animal surgical and behavioral procedures. Refines experimental pipelines and contributes to manuscript and grant preparation. Responsibilities Conduct research on Alzheimer's disease, neuropsychiatric disorders, and the microbiome using transgenic mouse models; perform drug treatments and behavioral tests; develop hypotheses and experimental designs. Collect mouse specimens (brain and peripheral organs) and prepare samples for histology, molecular and biochemical analysis; perform stereotactic surgery. Execute complex chemical, biological, cytologic, microscopic, histologic, surgical, statistical/computational and dissection procedures; conduct primary cell culture, histology and imaging of mouse nervous system tissue. Manage transgenic mouse colony and perform small animal surgical and behavioral procedures; identify and implement experimental and pipeline improvements. Prepare and submit research manuscripts and contribute to grant preparation by providing figures, methods, and technical expertise. Mentor junior lab members and foster a collaborative, high-performance lab culture. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or related fields, with experience in research, basic science, or clinical settings, including clinical trials research, and at least two years of applicable experience. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Detail-oriented with strong prioritization and organizational skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Willingness and ability to work with research animals. Shift & Compensation Shift: Days; M-F (work outside of standard business hours may be required). Pay Band: B6. Salary commensurate with qualifications within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint). Position fully funded through external sources; continued employment contingent on funding availability.
