Details Stepdown unit from ICU serving a wide variety of patient populations across multiple disciplines Utilizes a Co-Care/Virtual Nursing Model with 1 bedside RN, 1 virtual RN, and 1 CNA per patient Bedside RN to patient ratio of 1:4; CNA ratio of 1:6 Virtual RN supports admissions, discharges, rounding, education, care planning, and safety rounds Patient population includes cardiac (CHF, MI, TAVR, MVR, pacemaker, arrhythmia, ACS), respiratory (COVID, flu, COPD, asthma, trach, home ventilator), and overflow neuro and renal patients Also manages complex medical-surgical cases such as ETOH withdrawal and GI bleed Night shift schedule, 4x12 hours, 19:00-7:30 Weekend coverage required, potentially more frequent than every other weekend Floating required within scope to lower acuity units, renal care, neuro, and med-surg No on-call requirements Epic EMR used Requirements Active AK RN license required (pending license accepted, but must be in hand for auto offer) Minimum 1 year of RN experience required BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required Epic charting experience required Skilled in respiratory care including BiPAP/CPAP, high flow nasal cannula, ABG interpretation, and tracheostomy management Skilled in IV therapy, phlebotomy, central and peripheral line care, and blood product administration Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia management, and telemetry (on-unit and remote) Experience with rapid response/code team involvement Skilled in wound care and isolation precautions/PPE 2 professional references required, covering 1 year of experience within the last 3 years Additional Information Magnet-designated, Level II Trauma acute care hospital recognized as a USNWR Best Hospital in Alaska Scrubs provided by facility Free parking available First-time travelers accepted Local candidates not accepted; permanent address must be at least 50 miles from the facility Former permanent staff may return as travelers after a 3-month waiting period, provided they reside outside the 50-mile radius Travelers may be required to float between sister facilities in the area Must commit to working 3 of the 5 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day) All requested time off must be submitted upfront during the application process American Traveler Job ID P-746937.
