• Ventriculostomy experience
• NIH Stroke Scale Certification
• Ventilator management
• Experience with arterial lines and central lines
• Knowledge of tPA and acute stroke management
• Post craniectomy care

Description:

The unit has 18 beds. Patient-to-nurse ratio is 1:2. Clinicians will need to titrate drips per physician orders. Common diagnoses include ventriculostomy, strokes with and without tPA, and craniectomies. Nurses are responsible for troubleshooting respiratory equipment such as ventilators, CPAPs, BiPAPs, and high flow oxygen. There are Tele/Monitor Technicians present on each shift, and nurses are expected to read and interpret their own strips. The unit has a designated Charge Nurse and House Supervisor available 24/7. Patient care technicians are present with a ratio of 9:1. Nurses are required to float to other units as necessary, adhering to an appropriate nurse-to-patient ratio depending on the unit. All nurses are expected to work every other weekend and alternate holidays. Unit orientation consists of 20 hours, including both 8-hour and 12-hour shifts. The charting system utilized is EPIC. The position does not require a BSN. This is an acute care setting. Nurses are expected to maintain a drug-free environment and may be subject to drug screening.
