About the Position

Job Title: RN - Pediatrics Profession: RN Specialty: Nephrology Duration: 12 weeks Shift: Day Shift Hours per Shift: 8 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years of acute care Pediatrics experience; ambulatory clinic experience is strongly preferred but not required. License: RN License Certifications: BLS required. Must-Have: - Experience working with pediatric patients. - Skills in pediatric nephrology. - Familiarity with EPIC electronic medical records. Description: Travelers will work in one of the specialty areas based on the job posting. In Pediatrics Nephrology, there are 15 exam rooms, 7 MDs, and 1 APP. The clinic may see up to 25 patients per day. Required patient types/common diagnoses include: - Constipation - Reflux - G-tube care, changes, and feedings - Inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn's and Colitis - Motility disorders - TPN dependent patients - Liver patients pre/post liver transplant and fatty liver disease - Pre/post kidney transplant, chronic kidney disease, adrenal diseases, and osteogenesis imperfecta - Dialysis treatment follow-up for inpatient cases The majority of the patient population ranges from newborns to age 18, with some patients up to college graduation. Travelers will focus on the specific specialty applicable during the interview process. Skills required include: - Spinning down urine and plating on to microscopic slides - Rapid Strep, Flu, and COVID testing - Port access and CVL draws - Patient rooming and departure education following provider visits - Point-of-care testing - General assessment skills - Prescription refill using standing orders Assist with giving vaccines and injectable medications to patients, with potential training for biologic injectables if interested. Support within the department consists of a Front Desk Attendant, Clinical Leadership including a Nurse Manager and Clinical Supervisors, Clerical Leadership, and Peer RNs who assist with rooming and point-of-care testing. Additional resources include an on-site lab for phlebotomy, a Live Answer Team for patient calls, and access to radiology services. The schedule is Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM. There is no weekend rotation, no call requirement, and the facility is closed on major holidays. Requests for time off require manager approval. The schedule cycle will be provided one week before the contract starts. Scrub color is navy blue.
