Discovery Medicinal Chemistry Internship

Johnson & Johnson seeks an undergraduate chemistry student for a summer internship in Discovery Medicinal Chemistry at their La Jolla, California facility. The intern will synthesize and characterize novel compounds while collaborating with experienced scientists in a drug discovery research environment.

Responsibilities

• Synthesize, purify, and characterize novel drug-like compounds under scientist guidance
• Enable reaction discovery to address key synthetic chemistry challenges
• Participate in and present findings at project team meetings
• Collaborate with Discovery Chemistry group members and learn from other drug discovery functions

Requirements

• Current sophomore, junior, or senior pursuing B.S. in chemistry
• Completion of introductory organic chemistry laboratory and coursework
• Minimum 3.2 GPA strongly preferred
• Prior undergraduate research experience outside standard curriculum preferred
• Familiarity with analytical techniques (NMR, MS, HPLC) and safe laboratory practices preferred
• Legally authorized to work in U.S.; no visa sponsorship required now or future
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and strong communication skills
