Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Endoscopy Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 9 hours Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of relevant nursing experience License: Illinois RN License in good standing Certifications: BLS and ACLS (American Heart Association) Must-Have: - Health history review - Patient care - Endoscopy procedures - Moderate sedation - Patient assessment Description: The staff Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame. The RN provides care to these patients via the utilization of the nursing process, nursing trends, technology, financial and human resources within the philosophy of the institution. The RN will assume responsibility for patients undergoing endoscopy procedures including prep, intra-procedure, and recovery phases for routine GI procedures such as colonoscopy and upper endoscopy. The RN will provide direct patient care and rotate through the phases of care. The RN delivers moderate sedation under the direction of a physician. The RN works collaboratively with unit staff to provide care to outpatient populations and delegates to unlicensed personnel as appropriate. The RN performs all responsibilities and duties required by the unit as specific to the scope of service. The RN implements procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice. The RN maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to assure the integration of information for use by the healthcare team. The RN completes an initial assessment upon patient admission and develops an appropriate plan of care in accordance with unit standards based on patient and family needs. The RN implements the plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures. The RN modifies the plan of care based upon continuous evaluation. The RN takes responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents. The RN communicates with others directly and in private when necessary to resolve issues. The RN offers constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers and confers with colleagues to expand knowledge. The RN identifies their own learning needs and takes the initiative to begin appropriate solutions. The RN fulfills all requirements of departmental competencies. The RN prepares patients for procedures by completing assessments, reviewing health histories, starting IVs, and providing education to patients. The RN monitors and sedates patients during their procedures. The RN cares for patients in both phase 1 and phase 2 recovery. The RN assists during cases requiring anesthesia involvement. The overall role of the professional RN in Digestive Health is to define, direct, supervise, and evaluate patient care directly and via delegation to others using the nursing process. The RN performs all required responsibilities and duties as specific to the scope of service. The RN implements procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice. The RN maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to assure the integration of information for use by the healthcare team.
