Cardiothoracic Surgeon OpportunitySutter West Bay Medical Group (SWBMG) is seeking a full-time Board Eligible/Board Certified Cardiothoracic Surgeon to join our expanding Cardiothoracic Surgery program in San Francisco, California.This is an exceptional opportunity to join a collaborative, patient-centered cardiovascular team dedicated to providing advanced surgical care for patients with complex cardiac and thoracic conditions. The Cardiothoracic Surgeon will work closely with cardiologists, intensivists, advanced practice providers, anesthesiologists, and multidisciplinary care teams to deliver comprehensive, high-quality cardiovascular and thoracic surgical services.This opportunity is open to both experienced surgeons and graduating cardiothoracic surgery fellows interested in joining a collaborative, high-quality cardiovascular program serving the greater San Francisco Bay Area. The ideal candidate is committed to clinical excellence, innovation, and teamwork while providing outstanding patient care across the full spectrum of cardiothoracic surgery. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to a growing regional program while helping expand access to advanced cardiovascular and thoracic surgical care throughout the Bay Area.Location: San Francisco, CaliforniaOpportunity Details:Provide comprehensive cardiothoracic surgical care in both inpatient and outpatient settingsPerform a broad range of cardiac and thoracic surgical procedures, including elective and urgent interventionsEvaluate and manage patients with coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease, thoracic aortic disease, cardiac tumors, thoracic malignancies, and other complex cardiothoracic conditionsCollaborate closely with cardiologists, interventional cardiologists, electrophysiologists, pulmonologists, oncologists, and intensivists to develop individualized treatment plansParticipate in multidisciplinary cardiovascular and thoracic case conferences and quality initiativesProvide preoperative consultation, perioperative management, and postoperative follow-up careSupport development and growth of cardiovascular and thoracic surgical services throughout the regionUtilize evidence-based practices to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care and optimize outcomesParticipate in call coverage and emergent surgical care as part of a collaborative surgical teamContribute to quality improvement, patient safety, and program development initiativesMaintain timely and accurate documentation within the Epic electronic health recordWork within a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary cardiovascular program focused on exceptional patient outcomesQualificationsMD or DO degree from an accredited medical schoolCompletion of an accredited Cardiothoracic Surgery residency/fellowship training program, or current enrollment in an accredited Cardiothoracic Surgery fellowship with anticipated completion prior to start dateBoard Certified or Board Eligible in Thoracic Surgery; current Board Certification by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery preferredEligible for unrestricted California medical licensureCurrent DEA registrationExpertise or advanced training in adult cardiac surgery, including coronary, valvular, and aortic proceduresExpertise or advanced training in thoracic surgery, including lung resection and general thoracic proceduresNew graduates and fellows are encouraged to applyCommitment to collaborative, patient-centered care within a multidisciplinary teamStrong commitment to quality, patient safety, and evidence-based careExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsExperience with Epic or similar electronic health record systems preferredJoin Us and EnjoySutter West Bay Medical Group provides a comprehensive and competitive benefits package designed to support your professional growth, financial well-being, and work-life balance:Medical Coverage: Begins on day one, with multiple plan options starting as low as $0–$50 per month; includes coverage for domestic partnersDental & Vision: 100% employer-paid coverageRetirement: 8% employer-funded profit-sharing contribution up to IRS maximums—no employee contribution requiredMalpractice Insurance: Tail coverage includedContinuing Medical Education: $6,000 annual CME allowanceRelocation & Support: Relocation assistance and access to professional development resourcesTechnology: Fully integrated EPIC EMR across both clinic and hospital settingsProfessional Development: Opportunities for teaching, research, innovation, mentorship, leadership, and community engagementOrganization DetailsSutter Health offers a uniquely physician-aligned environment, large enough to support innovation and investment, yet local enough to preserve the autonomy, relationships, and purpose that matter to clinicians.Sutter West Bay Medical Group (SWBMG) is a premier multi-specialty medical group made up of nearly 500 clinicians practicing in the greater San Francisco service area.
