Systems Engineer (Mechanical) - GMD Weapons Systems (GWS)

What We're Doing Ground Missile Defense (GMD) is the heart of the Missile Defense System and a key element of our nation’s defense against ballistic missile attacks. The GMD Weapon System (GWS) processes data from multiple sensors to identify and characterize the inbound ballistic missile threat, plans the best defensive solution, and launches the intercepting missiles to negate the threat. The Work You will support the Ground Weapons System (GWS) program as an individual contributor on the HWE environmental team. Your responsibilities include ensuring compliance of the GWS system design with hardware requirements, evaluating equipment, providing design guidance, and producing analysis products. You will directly support the design and development of GWS capability on behalf of the Missile Defense Agency (MDA). The role requires a fast‑paced, team‑focused environment with high expectations. Basic Qualifications A final secret clearance is required BS in Mechanical Engineering and 2 years of related experience, or a Master’s STEM degree and 1 year of related experience, or 0 years of experience with a PhD. Ability to travel at least 10% Recent design experience using a 3D CAD package such as SolidWorks, Creo, or NX Experience drafting and reviewing 2‑D mechanical drawings per ASME standards Prior experience with engineering PLM systems such as Teamcenter and MRP systems such as SAP Experience evaluating vendor documents to ensure specifications and datasheets meet requirements Familiarity with MIL‑STD‑810, MIL‑STD‑1366, MIL‑STD‑1472, ASME Y14.5, ASME Y14.100, MIL‑STD‑31000, MIL‑STD‑461 Experience evaluating commercial off‑the‑shelf (COTS) and military parts for compliance to meet requirements Proficiency with Microsoft applications such as Excel, Word, Access, Outlook, and PowerPoint Desired Skills Understanding and application of industry engineering technical standards; demonstrated experience in structural design and impact assessments Experience with Agile or Kanban workflow, including tools such as Jira Familiarity with Missile Defense Agency (MDA) core standards: MDA‑QS‑001‑MAP, MDA‑QS‑003‑PMAP, MDA Instruction 5000.20‑INS (ETR process) Familiarity with the GMD domain and GMD launch support systems hardware Passion for fast‑paced environments Security Clearance & Eligibility This position requires a Secret clearance and US citizenship.
