Advanced Electrical Engineer R&D

Purpose: This position is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining new and existing electrical control systems and technology to support the R&D development activities within the Thin Film Technology group. This includes support at both the technical center and manufacturing facilities for equipment upgrades, R&D process development activities, and plant trial execution.Essential Functions:Provide technical expertise to support the design and implementation of new and existing processes to improve process capability and product quality/performanceSpecify and provide PLC and other programming support for R&D development projectsSupport installation and development of measurement, instrumentation, and inspection systems to support R&D development activities and manufacturing processesSupport implementation of R&D projects into global manufacturing facilitiesWork closely with manufacturing, and other internal departments to identify process improvement opportunities and define/conduct R&D trialsInterpret customer requirements, review machine specifications, create electrical drawings, and work with internal/external contractors to meet those requirementsWork individually and in an R&D team environment to plan project activities, control timing and budget, and provide regular project updates on R&D project activityMaintain and plan preventative maintenance on the R&D and development center process equipment.Troubleshoot issues with R&D and development center equipment and processesKeep record of electrical drawings and PLC and controls programsConduct or participate in risk assessments on new and modified equipmentSupport facility LOTO program through training and updating LOTO instructions as neededTravel domestically and internationally to R&D centers, manufacturing plants, supplier, and customer locationsAdherence to the NSG/Pilkington safety standards, Standards of Business Conduct, and Code of EthicsOther duties as assigned by managerQualifications Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, related field, or equivalent experienceMinimum 3 years of experience with application of electrical controlsProficiency in PLC/HMI programming and troubleshootingExperience with Allen-Bradley ControlLogix platform PLCsExperience or knowledge of mechatronics including automatic valves, pressure sensors/transducers, closed loop control (heating and cooling applications), and motorized conveyance systemsOther Requirements: Excellent interpersonal relations and communications skillsDemonstrated proactive, innovative problem-solving skillsHigh energy, self-starting individual with results-oriented focusMust possess and maintain valid driver’s license and acceptable MVR as defined by safety requirements.This position may travel up to 20%.Top 3 Competencies Needed for Success in the Role: Influential – Builds rapport and makes a positive and credible impact.Customer Focused – Actively seeks to understand internal and external customer needs and ensures customer solutions, practices and procedures are designed to assure customer satisfaction.Passion for Excellence – Takes personal responsibility and ownership for achieving results and objectives._____________________________________________________________________________We offer an excellent compensation and benefits package, which includes 401k, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, company paid holidays, paid vacations, and education assistanceNSG Group/Pilkington is an equal opportunity employer; M/F/D/V encouraged to apply.
