Oncology Pharmacist
The Oncology Pharmacist provides clinical and distribution services in collaboration with physicians and nursing staff to ensure safe and cost-effective medication therapy for patients. Supervises support personnel and participates in various departmental initiatives.
Key responsibilities include overseeing drug therapy treatment plans and protocols as a member of an interdisciplinary team, reviewing, interpreting, monitoring, and evaluating medication orders to identify, prevent, and resolve potential or actual drug-related issues, providing drug information and education to medical staff and patients, documenting interventions and their outcomes to support drug therapy quality improvement initiatives, assessing and assisting in ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, supporting the pharmacy buyer in managing oncology drug inventory and helping address drug shortages, and collaborating with department directors, hospital administration, and other hospital personnel as needed or directed by the director.
Qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy required. PharmD degree preferred. Current Illinois Registered Pharmacist License required. Completion of PGY-2 Oncology Residency or a minimum of 5 years non-dispensing oncology experience required. Board certification in oncology pharmacy specialty (BCOP) required within 18 months of hire. Demonstrated computer literacy with in-depth knowledge of Windows and pharmacy software applications. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, oral, and written communications skills required.
