Job Title: Interventional Services RN Profession: Nursing Specialty: Interventional Radiology Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of one year experience in critical care, emergency, or interventional radiology. License: Current RN license in the State of Oregon. Certifications: Current BLS, ACLS certification; certifications specific to areas of clinical specialty preferred. Must-Have: Evidence of continuing education appropriate for skill level and area of practice. Description: The Interventional Radiology/Cardiology RN provides specialized nursing care to patients undergoing invasive interventional procedures. This includes angiography, embolization, cardiac catheterization, and other minimally invasive interventions. This role works collaboratively with physicians and the interdisciplinary team to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care. He/she acts as the patient advocate and is responsible for the direction and supervision of any personnel assigned to him/her. The RN may be on call for the Interventional Unit as needed. Essential job functions include performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another without loss of efficiency or composure. In the nursing/circulator role, the RN administers medications as ordered, including anticoagulants and emergency drugs. Maintaining sterile technique and assisting with procedures as needed is also required. The RN acts as a patient advocate and anticipates the needs of the interventionalist. Recognizing and responding rapidly to complications is essential. The RN collaborates with the radiology team to address contrast allergies or sensitivities. Participation in pre-procedure discussions regarding appropriate contrast agents is expected. The RN verifies ASA classification and consults anesthesia for an ASA score of IV or greater when monitoring patients for moderate sedation. He/she provides moderate sedation per protocol and monitors vital signs, hemodynamics, oxygenation, and level of consciousness. The RN functions as the scrub technologist using sterile techniques to assist physicians during interventional procedures. This includes preparing and organizing sterile instruments, guidewires, and procedural trays. Anticipating physician needs and responding quickly during critical moments is crucial. As a primary monitor technologist, the RN records hemodynamic data and procedural events accurately. The RN assists with patient preparation and positioning, connecting monitoring equipment, and other relevant clinical factors. Verification of allergies, NPO status, and renal function is part of pre-procedure processes. Patient identification and timeout processes are performed in accordance with institutional policy. The RN assists with managing supplies, restocking rooms, and tracking expiration dates. Assisting with post-procedure cleanup and preparing the room for the next case is required. Ensuring devices are cleaned, charged, and stored properly is essential for operational efficiency. Qualifications include the ability to provide care for the patient's age-specific, cultural, physical, and psychosocial well-being. Bilingual and/or Spanish-speaking skills are preferred. The ability to work with a culturally diverse population is important.
