Director, Occupational Therapy

The Director, Occupational Therapy provides leadership, administration, and clinical oversight for the Occupational Therapy Department. This role is responsible for coordinating staffing, training, supervision, therapeutic programming, student and volunteer programs, documentation compliance, budget management, and direct occupational therapy services for Butler Hospital patient populations.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Coordinates the hiring, orientation, training, supervision, credentialing, documentation compliance, and annual performance evaluation of Occupational Therapy personnel, including occupational therapists, certified occupational therapy assistants, and activity therapists.
• Collaborates with clinical unit leadership to plan, develop, and maintain high-quality therapeutic programs for inpatient and partial hospital patient populations.
• Administers the Occupational Therapy student fieldwork program and collaborates with Human Resources and Patient Care Services on clinical internships and volunteer opportunities.
• Plans for and administers the department budget in accordance with hospital requirements, including oversight of personnel, supplies, equipment, overtime, budget compliance, and variance justification.
• Maintains a direct occupational therapy clinical caseload, identifies patient evaluation and treatment needs, collaborates with physicians and interdisciplinary teams, and plans individual or group treatment in Occupational Therapy and unit-based programs.

Provides departmental leadership through problem solving, communication, performance improvement, quality control, staff assignment, confidentiality, use of information systems, compliance with hospital policies, and completion of other assigned duties

Requirements

Education:

• Bachelor's Degree Required; Master's Degree Preferred
• Graduate of an Accredited school of Occupational Therapy plus current registration and Rhode Island License.

Experience:

• Minimum 7 Years

Licenses:

• Current Rhode Island Occupational Therapy license required.

Certifications:

• Current Occupational Therapy registration required.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• Knowledge of occupational therapy principles, program development, performance improvement, documentation compliance, staff supervision, budget administration, and interdisciplinary clinical collaboration.
