Job Summary Under the general supervision of the assigned administrator, the Facilities Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for a wide variety of tasks associated with the repair and maintenance of the interior and exterior of buildings and structures on campus. Key Responsibilities Provides instruction and direction to unskilled and semi-skilled assistants within the carpenter shop and other applicable areas; schedules crew activities and reports all repairs not covered by the team to the Customer Service Center supervisor on a daily basis. Provides sketches, estimated costs, and all other required information in support of the program. Provides instruction and support for the scheduling of activities of the team and reporting of all other required repairs not covered by the team such as electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and elevator repairs to the Customer Service Center supervisor on a daily basis. Accountable for all materials to be available at the job site and arrange for secure staging of materials and tools within the structure. Duration of Appointment This is a temporary position for 1 year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date. Classification Facilities Maintenance Mechanic Compensation Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources. CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $5,355 (Step 1) - $7,801 (Step 20) per month. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities This position is highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to maintain accurate daily records, including conducting audits of materials within designated buildings. They take responsibility for the upkeep, cleanliness, and inventory of maintenance supplies and equipment, ensuring resources are readily available and in good condition. They possess the skills to perform basic repairs to furniture, ceramic tile, floor and ceiling tiles, chalkboards, bulletin boards, and picture displays, as well as replace lighting fixtures as needed. Additionally, they are a dependable team member who can effectively support university ceremonies, special events, functions, and emergency response efforts. Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence." Education and Experience Equivalent to four (4) years of increasingly responsible experience leading to journey-level skills in a mechanical or facilities/building trade required. Licenses / Certificates Valid California driver's license required. Employees who are required to operate motorized vehicles and/or use their personal vehicle more than once a month on University business are required to take a mandatory Defensive Driving course and enroll in the DMV Employee Pull Notice (EPN) Program. Physical Summary Heavy work - Job involves lifting more than 40 pounds. Approximately half of the incumbent's time will be spent walking, standing, squatting, kneeling, or climbing. Additional Information CSULB is not a sponsoring agency for staff and management positions (i.e. H-1B Visas).
