Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg travel contract in Opelika, AL, requiring at least 1 year of experience and an Alabama or Compact RN license.

Details

• Acute care hospital setting with placement on either the 5T or 7T Med/Surg unit
• 5T unit has 34 beds; 7T unit has 36 beds
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6; nurse aides available with a goal ratio of 1:12
• Common diagnoses on 5T include CKD, ESRD, CVA, and DM; 7T includes COPD, Sepsis, AMS, UTI, AKI, Diabetes, COVID, Anemia, and generalized weakness
• RNs on 7T may titrate Heparin drips under Pharmacist direction; common set-rate drips include Amiodarone, Dobutamine, and Cardizem (all at stable doses)
• Respiratory therapy equipment on 5T includes high-flow oxygen, CPAP, and BiPAP; 7T uses all O2 modalities up to BiPAP (no ventilators)
• No telemetry techs on the floor unit; RNs are required to read their own telemetry strips (Philips monitors on 7T)
• Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts per week
• Weekend requirement: 4 shifts per 4-week period
• No on-call or standby requirement for contract staff
• Floating required within the medical-surgical division
• Cerner EMR in use

Requirements

• Active AL RN license or Compact RN license currently in hand
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• Current BLS certification required for both units; NIHSS certification additionally required for 5T placement
• Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips independently
• Med/Surg acute care experience required
• Must reside more than 100 miles from the facility to qualify for this position

Additional Information

• BSN is not required for this position
• 5T unit uses a modified self-scheduling model; 7T uses block scheduling for contract staff
• Unit-specific orientation for 5T consists of 2 shifts on the unit; 7T orientation includes one week of PCPO at the education center plus two 12-hour shifts on the assigned unit
• Holiday coverage required: 5T requires 1 major and 2 minor winter holidays; 7T requires Thanksgiving or Christmas plus New Year's or New Year's Eve, and one summer holiday (July 4th or Memorial Day)
• Scrub color is ceil blue; scrubs are not provided by the facility
• Charge nurses may flow into staffing based on census or staffing needs
