Job Title: Finance Systems Implementation Lead – Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance

Job Description

The Finance Systems Implementation Lead will drive the rollout and adoption of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance across multiple manufacturing plants, sales offices, and business entities. This role serves as the critical bridge between Finance and IT, translating business requirements into effective system solutions and becoming the internal subject matter expert for D365 Finance, reporting, and analytics. Over time, the position is expected to evolve into a global reporting and analytics-focused role, providing high visibility and direct exposure to leadership and key decision-makers.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support ongoing Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance implementation projects and future rollouts across additional business entities.
• Act as a liaison between Accounting, Finance, Operations, and IT teams to ensure alignment of system capabilities with business needs.
• Assess current financial policies and procedures and determine how they should be structured within D365 based on global, legal, and local business requirements.
• Gather, document, and manage business and system requirements, translating them into practical configuration and process solutions in D365 Finance.
• Work closely with finance, accounting, operations, IT, and external implementation partners to evaluate how system changes impact workflow, reporting, and data.
• Recommend process improvements and system solutions that support business objectives and enhance financial controls and efficiency.
• Assist with configuration, testing, troubleshooting, and continuous process improvement within D365 Finance, including GL, AP, and AR modules.
• Identify key users to assist with data migration and system transition activities, and coordinate their involvement throughout the project.
• Validate financial data and ensure balances reconcile appropriately during conversion from legacy systems to D365 Finance.
• Determine appropriate accounting treatment for cash balances, balance sheet accounts, and other financial transactions within D365.
• Research and resolve system design issues and implementation challenges, escalating and collaborating with technical resources as needed.
• Develop and track project plans, milestones, implementation schedules, and deliverables to keep initiatives on time and within scope.
• Monitor functional, schedule, and project risks throughout implementation and proactively recommend mitigation strategies.
• Communicate project status, risks, and implementation updates clearly and regularly to stakeholders and leadership.
• Identify reporting requirements and partner with project teams to develop financial reports, dashboards, and analytics solutions within D365 and related tools.
• Support AP, AR, and GL workflows, ensuring processes align with business requirements and best practices in financial reporting and month-end close.
• Participate in system testing, including user acceptance testing (UAT), to validate functionality and ensure a smooth transition for end users.
• Manage testing and validation activities for finance modules prior to go-live, ensuring data integrity and process readiness.
• Develop training materials, user guides, process documentation, and job aids for finance users.
• Plan and deliver training sessions for finance users in both virtual and in-person settings, tailored to different user groups and skill levels.
• Identify and develop key power users who can support future training, user adoption, and ongoing system enhancements.
• Promote user adoption and champion continuous process improvement initiatives across finance and related functions.
• Maintain up-to-date expertise in D365 Finance functionality, reporting capabilities, workflow automation, and best practices.
• Help identify opportunities to improve reporting, controls, chart of accounts design, and end-to-end financial processes such as procure-to-pay and order-to-cash.
• Provide functional guidance on accounting concepts, journal entry accounting, debits and credits, and month-end close workflows throughout the project lifecycle.
• Collaborate with implementation partners and internal stakeholders to ensure the solution design supports both current and future business needs.
• Support the evolution of the role into a global reporting and analytics-focused position, leveraging tools such as Power BI and SQL-based reporting.

Essential Skills

• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance (D365 F&O), specifically in General Ledger, Accounts Payable, and Accounts Receivable modules.
• Proven experience supporting ERP implementations, system deployments, or finance transformation projects.
• Strong background working with financial systems and understanding how they support accounting and finance processes.
• Experience with data migration, including validating financial data and reconciling balances during system conversions.
• Proficiency in gathering, documenting, and managing business and system requirements.
• Demonstrated capability in business process analysis, with a focus on finance and accounting workflows.
• Experience with user acceptance testing (UAT) and system testing for finance modules.
• Solid project management skills, including developing and tracking project plans, milestones, schedules, and deliverables.
• Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences.
• Working knowledge of financial reporting, chart of accounts design, and month-end close processes.
• Strong understanding of core accounting principles, including debits and credits and journal entry accounting.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain complex concepts in a clear and accessible way.
• Strong problem-solving skills and analytical mindset, with meticulous attention to detail.
• Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and collaborate with implementation partners and consulting resources.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Information Systems, IT, or a related field (Accounting or Finance degree preferred but not required).
• 3–5 years of customer-facing experience in a role involving finance systems, ERP implementations, or similar projects.
• High level of accountability for delivery and commitments, with a dependable and trustworthy work style.
• Technical aptitude to understand system capabilities, align them to business requirements, and manage scope.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Prior, direct experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance implementations or support.
• Experience leading or being part of a software implementation project in a finance or ERP context.
• Experience working with implementation partners, consulting firms, or external project teams.
• Manufacturing industry experience, particularly in multi-plant or multi-entity environments.
• Multi-entity or global ERP rollout experience, including coordination across different regions or business units.
• Experience with reporting and analytics tools, including Power BI and SQL-based reporting solutions.
• Familiarity with workflow automation and controls within ERP systems.
• CPA or other accounting certifications are a plus.
• Strong organizational skills, with the ability to structure complex workstreams and maintain clear documentation.
• High analytical and emotional intelligence with an engaging, collaborative demeanor.
• Demonstrated ability and desire to continuously learn and integrate new skills, technologies, and ideas.
• Curious, self-motivated team member who is eager to learn and contribute to process and system improvements.

Work Environment

This role operates in a collaborative environment that closely integrates Finance, Accounting, Operations, and IT during a major technology modernization initiative. The position strongly favors candidates who can work onsite a few days per week to partner directly with the lead IT resource and the broader project team, especially during key phases of the D365 Finance implementation. You will work with modern ERP technologies including Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance, bolt-on solutions such as DOAP for Accounts Payable, and analytics tools like Power BI and SQL-based reporting. The environment offers high visibility to leadership and key decision-makers, with opportunities to influence systems, reporting, and business processes across multiple entities. Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Glendale Heights, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $36.06 - $57.69/hr.
