Police Officer LATERAL (Experienced Officers)

Position Overview Seattle Police Department is seeking experienced law enforcement officers for lateral entry positions. Applicants must meet the eligibility requirements listed below and must be candidates for the lateral police officer exam. NOTE: This exam is for experienced law enforcement officers only. Hiring Bonus: $50,000 for lateral police officers. Responsibilities Provide public safety by maintaining order, responding to emergencies, protecting people and property, enforcing motor vehicle and criminal laws, and promoting good community relations. Explain laws and police procedures to residents. Operate a patrol car and patrol city streets, areas, and businesses to deter criminal activity and promote public safety. Investigate hazardous conditions, conduct initial investigations of crime and crime scenes, assist detectives, conduct search and seizure, collect and preserve evidence. Arrest and/or detain suspected violators; review facts to determine criminality. Record facts and prepare reports documenting incidents and activities. Render first aid to accident victims and other individuals requiring assistance. Transport individuals in custody. Present evidence and testimony in judicial settings. Eligibility Standards At least 20.5 years of age. U.S. citizenship, permanent residency, or DACA recipient. High school diploma or GED. At least 24 months of post‑academy experience as a certified law enforcement officer with full powers and duties, completed within the last 36 months, in a U.S. state. Minimum Employment Standards Drug use: No marijuana use within 12 months before exam; no use of cocaine, crack, club drugs, hallucinogens, PCP, opiates, methamphetamine, aerosol inhalants, or illicit drugs during the prior 5 years. Driving record: No DWI, reckless driving, or hit–and–run; no license suspension within 5 years; no 3 or more moving violations or 2 or more accidents with fault within 5 years. Criminal history: No adult felony convictions; no misdemeanors or felonies while employed in a law‑enforcement capacity; no domestic‑violence convictions. Financial record: No outstanding tax or child‑support liabilities. Professional appearance: Must meet SPD standards; tattoos or scars will be reviewed on a case‑by‑case basis.
