This is a professional nursing position in the Newborn Screening Follow-up Program's (NBS) Nursing Unit within the Division of Children's Medical Services. NBS is a mission critical program responsible for the tracking and surveillance of the statewide screening program for all newborns in Florida. This position is expected to be knowledgeable about a variety of rare metabolic, endocrine, hematology, immunology, and cardiac conditions. This position provides guidance and technical assistance to medical providers throughout Florida on newborn screening matters. This position will join a group of other Registered Nurse Consultants with the NBS Nursing Unit. The ability to collaborate, communicate, and work well as a member of a team is imperative. NBS nurses:

• Receive, evaluate, and interpret newborn screening results received from the state laboratory per standard operating procedures, and determine next steps in the care plan.
• This includes communication with contracted NBS Referral Centers, hospitals, midwives, primary care providers, and parents/guardians regarding results and next steps.
• Screening results are required to be reviewed and disseminated to the appropriate recipient(s) quickly to expedite follow-up, diagnosis, and treatment.
• Perform case management activities to ensure follow-up recommendations were completed.
• This includes monitoring the newborn screening data system for repeat results, additional outreach to primary care providers and/or parent/guardians, analyzing diagnostic case reports received from NBS Referral Centers, while tracking activities and diagnoses across systems.
• Provide technical assistance and education to birthing facilities, children's hospitals, home birth providers, primary care providers, and others as deemed necessary, and develops training and educational materials for these key stakeholders.
• Travel is required.
• Perform quality assurance activities in several facets of daily tasks.
• Partner with the NBS Contract Unit to perform programmatic monitoring for the NBS Referral Centers and Long-Term Genetics Programs.

Qualifications:

• Minimum – Licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with Section 464, Florida Statutes.
• Minimum of 2 years nursing experience.
• Valid Florida Driver's License.
• Preferred – Newborn Screening Experience.
• Contract Management or Program Management experience.
• Experience working with Microsoft Office Programs.
