Job Description

Insight Global is seeking an Instrumentation and Controls Engineer to support commissioning, controls integration, and device-level configuration for complex process skids. This person will work independently with minimal hand-holding while applying a strong understanding of how HMIs, PLCs, instrumentation, hardware, and mechanical controls work together to bring systems from design into commissioned operation. The role will configure and commission HMI/SCADA applications, including screen development, tag binding, alarms, and operator controls for manual, automatic, and sequence modes. This engineer will also design and document remote I/O architecture, configure and verify field devices and drives, and generate PLC tag databases, setpoint tables, and device-instance data. A major part of the role includes leading sequence development for complex skids with high tag counts and coordination across multiple systems. The ideal candidate has strong Siemens PLC/control-system concepts, Ignition experience, and practical exposure to EtherNet/IP remote I/O and IO-Link device architectures. This person will serve as a key I&C technical resource during reviews, direct technician activity on assigned skids, mentor less experienced engineers, and improve commissioning workflows where possible. Pay range $40-60/hr.

Skills and Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline; strong equivalent hands-on controls experience may be considered.

10 years of Experience

Ability to work independently on commissioning, controls checkout, troubleshooting, and integration activities without requiring heavy day-to-day direction.

Hands-on understanding of PLCs, HMIs, instrumentation, field devices, control panels, remote I/O, hardware integration, and how controls interact with mechanical equipment.

Strong Siemens PLC/control-system understanding preferred; specific platform experience is helpful, but the bigger requirement is strong controls concepts and the ability to learn the site platform quickly.

Experience with Ignition or a comparable HMI/SCADA platform.

Experience with EtherNet/IP remote I/O and IO-Link device architectures is strongly preferred because it will help the candidate ramp faster. Experience with Ignition or a comparable modern SCADA platform.

Familiarity with process hazard analysis methods and functional safety concepts.
