Registered Nurse (RN) - Operating Room/OR Circulator

Job Information Exemption Status: Non-Exempt A Brief Overview Perioperative nursing is a specialty within the nursing profession that encompasses the care of individuals across the life span who are undergoing a surgical procedure or procedure requiring anesthesia. Perioperative nursing incorporates the pre-procedure care, intra operative and acute post-operative care. The Perioperative nurse will use a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to patient care. Perioperative nursing can range from routine, elective procedures to highly complex procedures to trauma. Perioperative nurses have adapted nursing process to include strict adherence to the surgical safety checklists, sterility, surgical counts and post-operative airway, pain and nausea management. Perioperative nurses will educate patients about post-operative care management and provide same day discharge instructions. Education Qualifications* Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to rights of patient/significant other, as identified within the institution. (Required proficiency)* Demonstrates awareness and application of safety issues as identified within the institution. (Required proficiency)* Demonstrates awareness of legal issues in all aspects of patient care and departmental functioning. Strives to manage situations in a manner, which minimizes risk to the patient and the institution. (Required proficiency)* Demonstrates competency in selected psychomotor skills. (Required proficiency)* Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, non-verbal and written methods. (Required proficiency)* Ability to perform mathematical calculations related to medication administration and equipment calibration. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. (Required proficiency)* Registered Nurse - KSBN A multistate license with the ability to practice within the State of Kansas is also accepted. Required* Basic Life Support - BLS Must have within 90 days of hire.* RQI, CPR or ACLS certifications may be required in lieu of or in addition to BLS depending on department.* Provides direct patient care as defined within the scope of the state’s nurse practice act. Performs assessment/data collection in an ongoing and systematic manner, focusing on physiological and cognitive status. Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards.* Formulates a prioritized and goal directed plan of care, which is based on patient’s presenting problems and projected outcomes.* Implements care in a knowledgeable, skillful, consistent manner, while promoting the continuum of care.* Functions to establish priorities of patient care based on essential patient needs and available unit resources of time, personnel, equipment and supplies. Prepares equipment and aids provider during treatment, examination and testing of patients.* Evaluates the effectiveness of the health care process (self, systems, environment, and instrumentation) in meeting outcomes. Observes, records, and reports patient’s condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to provider. Provides medication as directed.* Documents in patient and department records in a timely, accurate and concise manner according to department standards. Maintains and reviews patient records, charts, and other pertinent information. Compiles tests and examination results.* Adheres to Universal Protocol and completes surgical safety checklist. Creates maintains and monitors all persons in and around sterile environments.* Functions to establish priorities of patient care based on essential patient needs and available department resources of time, personnel, equipment and supplies.* Assures timely, appropriate surgical counts are performed.* Participates in system wide/department patient care quality improvement activities as well as standards development.* Participates actively in clinical education activities, including orientation of new employees and teaching student nurses. Participates in nursing research activities.* Participates in development and attainment of system wide/department hospital goals.* Delegates tasks and duties in the direction and coordination of health care team members, patient care and department activities in accordance with the Kansas State Nurse Practice Act.* Adheres to staffing and scheduling practices.* Seeks validation of knowledge base, skill level and decision making as necessary and assertively seeks guidance in areas of question.* Complies with all policies, standards, mandatory training and requirements of Stormont Vail Health* Performs other duties as assigned* Workspace is a quiet and distraction-free allowing the ability to comply with all security and privacy standards.* Stable access to electricity and a minimum of 25mb upload and internet speed.* Dedicate full attention to the job duties and communication with others during working hours.* Adhere to break and attendance schedules agreed upon with supervisor.* Abide by Stormont Vail’s Remote Worker Policy and will review and acknowledge the Remote Work Agreement annually.Email your resume and cover letter to the applicable team below.
