University of West Alabama: Academic Affairs: College of Education: Department of Instructional Leadership and Support Location University of West Alabama Open Date Mar 30, 2026 Description The Department of Instructional Leadership and Support at the University of West Alabama invites applications for Adjunct Faculty to support the EdD in Rural Education program. This position supports the preparation of scholar-practitioners who are committed to advancing research, leadership, and practice in rural education settings. Responsibilities Serve as a methodologist for doctoral students in the EdD in Rural Education program. Teach doctoral-level rural education, statistics, and/or research courses in online and/or blended formats as assigned. Design and deliver engaging, high-quality instruction aligned with program outcomes and scholarly standards. Facilitate meaningful discussions and provide timely, constructive feedback to support candidate growth. Assess student performance using clear, standards-based evaluation practices. Maintain regular communication with students and program faculty; respond to student emails within a 24‑hour period. Contribute to continuous program improvement initiatives as appropriate. Perform other duties as assigned by department leadership. Adjunct appointments are made on an as‑needed basis, depending on departmental needs and course availability. As such, an adjunct status does not guarantee assignment to teach courses in any given term, nor does it ensure a specific number of course assignments. Teaching opportunities may vary from term to term based on enrollment, program requirements, and scheduling needs. Qualifications Required Qualifications Earned doctoral degree in Education or a related field with at least 18 graduate credit hours in research methods, statistics, or qualitative research (may be combined across these areas). Demonstrated effectiveness teaching in online learning environments. Commitment to quality teaching and student success. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Preferred Qualifications Strong background in research methodology, statistics, and/or quantitative or qualitative research (candidates with this expertise will be given priority consideration). Proficiency with learning management systems (e.g., Blackboard). Experience in rural education or rural education research. Recent (within the last 10 years) research publications or conference presentations. Experience supporting doctoral students and dissertation work.
