Description: The Registered Nurse implements professional nursing practice centered on the patient as a whole person. Focus is placed on the creation of a caring environment centered on healing and wellness. Nursing practices are based on evidence, current research, hospital policies, regulatory standards, and professional guidelines. Clinical decision-making incorporates all four phases of the nursing process, critical thinking, and creativity. Responsibilities include: Performing and documenting comprehensive assessments in accordance with nursing scope of practice and hospital policies. Considering the patient’s culture, age, and developmental level. Identifying patient risk factors and presenting complaints. Collecting objective and subjective data. Verifying initial admission assessments obtained by other healthcare team members. Developing a problem list, prioritizing patient needs based on inter-professional team input. Designing actions and interventions relevant to patient culture and age. Determining desired outcomes in coordination with patients and families according to the medical plan of care. Implementing patient care therapies and procedures with empowerment and clinical autonomy. Explaining procedures and treatments to patients and families. Initiating actions to alleviate patient stress and discomfort. Recognizing, responding to, and communicating changes in patient conditions appropriately. Conducting ongoing assessments and documenting responses to procedures according to hospital policy. Setting priorities for the care of multiple patients and organizing workloads efficiently. Delegating tasks appropriately and overseeing team members in their performance of patient care activities. Monitoring the accuracy and completeness of care provided by other team members. Identifying and addressing educational needs of patients. Facilitating the patient discharge process by executing discharge orders timely. Providing input into patient/nurse assignments considering available staffing and patient acuity. Actively participating in unit-based activities that support organizational values.
