Maintenance Craftsman

Under general supervision, perform skilled building and equipment maintenance work, including repair, maintenance, alteration, and occasional new construction of district facilities. The ideal candidate will possess strong HVAC skills.

Essential Duties:

• Perform a variety of skilled maintenance, repair, and preventive maintenance tasks involving district buildings, facilities, and equipment.
• Inspect, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and other building systems.
• Conduct routine inspections and identify maintenance needs to ensure facilities remain safe, functional, and well-maintained.
• Perform repairs and installations related to building systems, fixtures, equipment, and components.
• Operate district vehicles, tools, equipment, lifts, and ladders safely and effectively.
• Maintain compliance with applicable safety standards, regulations, and district procedures.
• Work independently to prioritize assignments and respond to maintenance requests in a timely manner.

Knowledge of building maintenance, repair methods, and preventive maintenance practices. Experience troubleshooting and repairing HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and related building systems. Knowledge of safe work practices, including applicable OSHA standards. Ability to diagnose problems, determine appropriate solutions, and complete repairs efficiently. Ability to manage multiple tasks, work independently, and communicate effectively with staff and vendors.

Desired Qualifications:

• HVAC installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting experience is highly desirable.
• EPA Section 608 Certification or the ability to obtain certification is preferred.
• Experience in commercial, institutional, or school facility maintenance is desirable.

Ability to take projects from start to finish with minimal assistance. Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Read and interpret construction drawings. Perform mathematical calculations related to measurement. Establish and maintain positive working relationships with staff.

Physical (ADA) Requirements: Stand, bend, twist, reach, grasp, stretch, climb, balance, kneel, crouch, squat, push, pull, and drag. Frequently lift and carry items up to 10 lbs. Occasionally lift and carry items 80+ lbs. (cement bags, sheetrock, doors, jackhammer). Work in varying weather conditions.

Experience: Two years as a journeyman in a specialized trade OR Three years as a General Maintenance Worker. Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Other Requirements: Valid California driver's license.
