Bargaining Unit: Education Support Staff Association (ESSA) Job Qualifications/Requirements (please review job description for qualifications and duties of the position):
- Minimum of 48 college credits.
- Completion of, or proof of enrollment upon job offer in, a 3-credit college-level Children's Literature course focused on selecting, interpreting, and using quality literature with children (PreK 8); if not already completed, must be completed within 12 months of hire.
- At least 1 year of experience in a public, academic, or school library, including use of online catalogs and classification systems; 1 year of classroom management may be substituted.
- General clerical skills, including a minimum typing speed of 35 wpm.
- Basic computer knowledge, including database management and effective use of online resources.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage shifting priorities, frequent interruptions, and stressful situations.
- Comfortable working with elementary-aged children and understanding of their developmental stages.
- Ability to maintain a welcoming, child-friendly library environment.
- Ability to promote literature and help students find age-appropriate, engaging books.
- Ability to assist students with computer searches and traditional reference resources.
- Ability to coordinate volunteers and elementary student helpers.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
