Substitute Bus Driver Spencer County Transportation - Taylorsville, Kentucky Open in Google Maps This job is also posted in Spencer County Job Description Substitute School Bus Driver 2025-2026 School Year Job Summary The Substitute School Bus Driver is responsible for safely transporting students to and from school and related activities. Key duties include following designated routes, ensuring the safety of passengers, conducting all required inspections, and maintaining a positive, respectful environment on the bus. Drivers must adhere to traffic laws and school policies, communicate effectively with students and parents, and respond to emergencies calmly and efficiently. A valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) and a clean driving record are required. They are expected to maintain positive relationships with staff and the community. Duties and Responsibilities Prioritize the safety and well being of all passengers during transit Train, understand, and follow the 20 Step Loading Procedure Drive a school bus over designated routes in accordance with specified time schedules and in accordance with regulations and laws related to pupil transportation in the State following specified schedules; transport students to and from school, special events and field trips Pick up and discharge students, under varying weather conditions, at established bus stops; report incidents which affect the safety of students Maintain the bus in a safe operating condition through prescribed daily vehicle inspections and driver maintenance including cleaning windows, mirrors and bus interior; check and maintain fuel, oil and water levels; check brakes, brake lights and doors; report mechanical defects and malfunctions to appropriate personnel Transport physically handicapped and mentally handicapped children to and from designated locations; lift and secure wheelchairs; assist in the loading and unloading of handicapped children as necessary Perform emergency bus evacuation drills as required by Kentucky Administration Regulations Maintain order and discipline among students on bus following District policies and procedures regarding disciplining of students and contact with school officials, parents and the public; interact with parents regarding questions, concerns and disputes Observe applicable local, State and federal policies, procedures and guidelines Fuel and clean exterior and interior of buses including picking up debris, sweeping and mopping floor, wiping upholstery and cleaning headlights Maintain records concerning vehicle maintenance, miles driven and number of children transported and other related matters; prepare student conduct, incident and accident reports Act swiftly and calm in emergency situations Performs other duties as assigned for the efficient functioning of the district Professionalism Maintains a professional appearance Completes work as directed by Board Policy and Procedure Completes assigned tasks in a timely manner Arrives to work punctually and works all contracted days and hours Uses discretion and good judgment with confidential information Uses proper safety measures to protect themselves and others FOR THIS TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT, STATE LAW REQUIRES A NATIONALAND STATE CRIMINAL HISTORY BACKGROUND CHECK AND A LETTER,PROVIDED BY THE INDIVIDUAL, FROM THE CABINET FOR HEALTH ANDFAMILY SERVICES STATING THE APPLICANT HAS NO ADMINISTRATIVEFINDINGS OF CHILD ABUSE OR NEGLECT FOUND THROUGH A BACKGROUND CHECK OF CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT RECORDS MAINTAINED BY THECABINET FOR HEALTH AND FAMILY SERVICES Position Type: Part-Time Job Requirements Citizenship, residency or work visa required #J-18808-Ljbffr Spencer County
