The nurse will perform medical procedures not typically provided by regular teacher assistants to maintain students in the least restrictive environment. They will act as active members of the educational team in providing services to students. The nurse will work under the supervision of the Certified School Nurse assigned to the student's program. Physical Requirements: The physical demands of this role are representative of what is necessary to perform the essential functions of the job. Standing and walking abilities are required for extended periods, up to 4-6 hours per day. Sitting for up to 2-4 hours during instruction or meetings is expected. The ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and assist students as needed is required. Reaching, grasping, and handling materials and classroom equipment are essential functions. Bending or kneeling to assist students and retrieve materials is necessary. Effective vision, hearing, and communication abilities are crucial for interacting with students and staff. Dexterity for writing, typing, and using teaching tools and technology is required. The role involves supporting students with physical needs or disabilities. Maintaining focus and emotional regulation in a dynamic classroom environment is essential. Qualifications: - 2 years of professional nursing experience required (1 year with pediatrics or special needs) - Experience with G-tube feeding, tracheostomies, ventilation, and suctioning is necessary.
