Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Evening/Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: WA or Compact License Certifications: ACLS, BLS, TNCC, PALS or ENPC Must-Have: Experience in a larger trauma setting is accepted with a minimum of 1 year. Description: The unit consists of 56 beds, which can be expanded to 60-70 beds with hall beds. There is a Fast Track with 6 beds. A separate triage area exists with 5 beds, and travelers may be assigned to triage after passing a test. The department has 18 designated beds for holding inpatients awaiting bed placement. Registered Nurses manage their own ER holds, with inpatient nurses occasionally floating to assist. Separate psych/seclusion rooms are available, comprising a locked hall with 6 private treatment rooms. The unit has in-house security and handles approximately 170-200 patients daily. Nurse-patient ratios are 1:3 for standard care and can be 1:4 for lower acuity cases. Common diagnoses include cardiac issues, strokes, sepsis, DKA, altered mental status, respiratory problems, and abdominal pain. The department employs both ED physicians and mid-level professionals. Charge nurses and house supervisors are present. Nurse aides, paramedics, and patient sitters assist within the department. Respiratory therapists manage equipment such as vents, CPAP, and BiPAP. Respiratory therapists also perform arterial blood gases. Telemetry monitoring is available, and monitor techs support the unit. Registered Nurses can read cardiac strips. Radiology services for X-rays and CT scans are located adjacent to the department, with transport services to assist with patient movement. Nurse or ED tech primarily draws blood, with lab assistance for difficult draws. Shifts and scheduling are based on departmental needs with existing patterns established for traveler schedules. Weekend requirements will vary based on unit demands. Holidays must be worked during peak demand months, with consideration for one holiday based on unit requirements. No call or standby is required, but extra shifts may be available. Scrubs should adhere to professional colors. There is a one-day compliance orientation followed by a second departmental orientation. No requests for time off will be considered the first full week of a traveler’s assignment. The hospital reserves the right to cancel up to 4 shifts within a 13-week assignment. The charting system utilized is EPIC. A BSN is not required for submission.
