Surgical Technologist OR

Overview Surgical Technologists perform various duties as a member of the surgical team to ensure a safe and successful operative procedure. This position functions under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and directly reports to Surgical Services management. The tech will support system-wide and surgical operations initiatives and practices, and actively participate in the surgical operations safety plan. Shifts and Scheduling Full-time, 40 hours/week. Day shifts. 4–10 hour shifts, 6:45 a.m. – 5:15 p.m. with on‑call and weekend requirements. Job Essentials Ensures the operating room and all surgical items meet sterilization criteria. Maintains a sterile field and a safe environment. Recognizes and addresses sharps and fire safety processes. Prepares room and instruments for surgical procedures; may assist with sterile processing. Assists the surgical staff during the procedure, within the scope of practice. After procedures, cleans the room and prepares for the next procedure. Identifies emergency situations and exercises judgment when implementing procedures to respond to emergencies. Posting Specifics Level I Pay Range: $26.74 – $41.28 per hour (depending on experience) Level II Pay Range: $29.43 – $45.39 per hour (depending on experience) Level III Pay Range: $32.34 – $49.94 per hour (depending on experience) Benefits Eligible: Yes (Medical, Dental, Vision, 401(k), and many more) Location: Operating Rooms – Good Samaritan Medical Center, Lafayette, Colorado This position could be filled as a Surgical Tech II or Surgical Tech III depending on experience and qualifications. Minimum Qualifications Level I Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers. Completion of an accredited Operating Room Technician program (ORT). Or graduated from a non‑accredited surgical tech program within the past six months, not currently eligible to sit for the Tech in Surgery exam (NCCT). Or two years of scrub tech experience in hospital or military surgical services within the last three years. Or hired for on‑the‑job training in a rural hospital. Or internationally trained, legally authorized to work in the United States. Competent in basic procedures or one or more specialty areas/facility case mix. Able to take assigned call. Registered through DORA in the state of Colorado. Level II / III Must meet all Level I requirements. Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers. Competent in basic procedures and two or more specialty areas and/or facility case mix. Able to take assigned call. Must be in good standing. Registered through DORA in the state of Colorado. For Level III, prior approval from the Surgical Services Director Council is required before the caregiver is moved into this role. Physical Requirements Continual need to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, and identify equipment and supplies. Frequent verbal communication with patient care providers, patients, and visitors, requiring clear understanding in emergency situations. Manual dexterity to manipulate complex, delicate equipment with precision and accuracy, including regular computer use and typing. Expected to lift, transfer, bend, and carry items of varying weights, including heavy objects, while moving patients and assisting with transportation. Need to walk, push, pull gurneys and portable equipment, often in crowded and busy operating rooms. May be required to stand for extended periods.
