Department: 5 Kidd Renal Oncology
Shift Timings: 06:30 - 19:00 Hours, Monday to Friday (3 Days/ 12 Hours)
Per Week: 36 Hours


Unit Capacity: 32 Beds with 13 beds dedicated for leukemia/lymphoma patients with a lower nurse ratio.
Population Served: The most frequent diagnosis for patients on 5 Kidd includes, but is not limited to: Lymphoma, Leukemia, Pancytopenia and Anemia conditions, Urology surgeries, and renal conditions that request peritoneal dialysis. 5 Kidd provides care to oncology/hematology patients who may be admitted for blood product transfusions, chemotherapy or symptom control .
5 Kidd provides post op surgical care to urological surgeries, including, but not limited to TURPs, prostatectomies, nephrectomies, and cystectomies 5 Kidd provides care to renal patients, including peritoneal dialysis.
5 Kidd also provides care regularly to overflow medical and surgical patients from throughout the hospital. Patients may require cardiac monitoring (telemetry) which is available for all beds.
Ages of Patients Served: Young Adult through Late Adult (18 - 60+)
Nurse to Patient Ratios: Renal Medical 1:6, Medical Oncology 1:4 Core Staffing Plan
Variable staffing grid to include: Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), Patient Care Technicians (PCTs), Nurse Interns (NIs). An RN assumes full responsibility for the patients on each team.


Roles & Responsibilities
Implement and monitor patient care plans. Monitor, record and communicate patient condition as appropriate.
Serve as a primary coordinator of all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care.
Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
Assess and coordinate patient's discharge planning needs with members of the healthcare team.
