Program Description: The Center for Population Health Data Science (CPHDS)- launched in October of 2023- aims to catalyze critical data modernization work and enable the agency to make progress toward linking public health, healthcare, and social service fortimely and effectivepublic action.We are working towards making these data more accessible, timely, equitable, meaningfully usable, and protected – and actively used to protect and promote the health and well-being of New Yorkers.We aim to strengthen agency-wide data capabilities by empowering our workforce, enhancing intra- and inter-agency data sharing, and using modern technology to yield trusted and integrated data and insights. A real-time and comprehensive view of city needs is needed to enhance public health actions and improve health outcomes for the most vulnerable New Yorkers.This position will be based at the Health Department’s office in Long Island City, NY, with the possibility of hybrid work. The Bureau of Epidemiology Services (BES) collects, analyzes and communicates data to monitor and improve the health of New Yorkers. BES provides statistical analytic support for public health surveillance, epidemiologic research, and program evaluations in DOHMH. Within BES, the Surveys and Data Analysis Unit (SDAU) leads data collection, processing, and analytic support activities for citywide population surveys conducted by the NYC Health Department, such as the Community Health Survey, and operates the NYC Health Panel, the Agency’s in-house survey panel. SDAU is seeking a survey data analyst to support data operations and management, cleaning, and analysis for data collected by the unit. The analyst will primarily support the work of the NYC Health Panel, a survey panel maintained by the NYC Department of Health, but they may also contribute to data-related activities for other Agency surveys. Responsibilities: DOHMH is seeking one full-time Survey Data Analyst within theCenter for Population Health Data Science, Bureau of Epidemiology Services (BES), and will be reporting to the NYC Health Panel Data Infrastructure Manager. The Survey Data Analyst will support activities from the start to finish of survey data collection and processing. Additionally, they will assist with data management activities related to the NYC Health Panel’s management of enrolled panelists. Specifically, the Survey Data Analyst will be responsible for: Creating datasets from raw survey data including merging, cleaning datasets and variables, that include recodes, labels, and formats Creating analytic and final datasets, codebooks, and other supporting documentation Using SAS and SQL to create and maintain survey implementation datasets, including invitation distribution lists, incentive lists, processing withdrawals, geocoding revised contact information, etc Assisting with requests for data analysis, data checking, or other related support as needed Required Qualifications: Master's degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of two years of responsible full-time research or data management experience in the appropriate field of specialization Experience in data cleaning, and management; familiarity with health survey development or survey administration is a plus At least one year of experience creating and maintaining SQL databases Experienced using R, SAS, and/or SQL Preferred Qualities: Fluency in statistical packages such as SAS and SUDAAN Skills in SQL database design and maintenance, as well as Microsoft Access for front-end interaction with the database Experience with applied data analysis and data management. Familiarity with survey implementation processes Experience developing protocols for data-related processes Demonstrated commitment to health equity and reduction of health disparities Willingness to check others’ analyses and have their analyses checked by others Collaboration skills, including ability to work with stakeholders from multiple parts of an organization to support their needs Able to interact professionally with people from diverse cultural, racial, ethnic, gender, and socioeconomic backgrounds Hybrid Work Schedule. Additional Information: This is a temporary grant-funded position ending in November 2027 This individual must reside in the tri-state area (NY, NJ, CT) by their confirmed start date. Preference may be given to individuals residing in New York City (5 boroughs) or surrounding New York State counties. This individual will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies.
