Remote Senior Backend Engineer

Senior Backend Engineer We are seeking a motivated Senior Backend Engineer to work with one of our clients and support the development and maintenance of scalable backend services and data-driven applications. In this role, you will work closely with senior engineers to design, build, test, and optimize RESTful APIs and backend components while contributing to data processing workflows using Databricks and SQL/Python. You will gain hands-on experience in microservices architecture, cloud environments, and modern DevOps practices while helping troubleshoot production issues and improve system performance. This is a fully remote contract position that is estimated to begin in June 2026 and end in August 2026. The candidate must be located in the United States and be able to work as an independent contractor. No C2C. Key Responsibilities: Backend Development & API Engineering Develop and maintain RESTful APIs and backend services using Java (Spring WebFlux) and Python Contribute to microservices architecture, testing, debugging, and performance optimization Troubleshoot backend and API issues in development and production environments Data Processing & Database Management Build and support data processing workflows using Databricks notebooks (SQL / Python) Write, optimize, and maintain complex PostgreSQL queries and data models Diagnose and resolve data-related issues to ensure accuracy and performance Cloud, DevOps & Team Collaboration Work within Azure or AWS cloud environments and follow CI/CD best practices Participate in Agile ceremonies and collaborate with senior engineers on design and delivery Communicate effectively to support cross-functional problem solving and production support Messaging Webhook Caching Redis API Gateway Apigee Container Platform Kubernetes Performance Testing K6 Required Skills and Duties: 4+ years of backend development experience Hands-on experience with Java (Spring Boot, RESTful microservices) and Python for backend and data-processing use cases Experience working with Databricks notebooks for data analysis or processing Strong PostgreSQL / SQL skills Familiarity with Angular or other modern UI frameworks Exposure to Azure or AWS cloud environments • Familiarity with CI/CD and DevOps practices Strong problem-solving and communication skills Develop and maintain backend services and RESTful APIs Build and support data processing logic using Databricks notebooks (SQL / Python) Write and optimize SQL queries and data models (PostgreSQL) Work with senior engineers on design, development, testing, and bug fixes Troubleshoot backend, API, and data-related issues Participate in Agile ceremonies and provide production support as needed Implement secure coding best practices and participate in ongoing security training and awareness Qualifications: Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Business, or related field Preferred Attributes: 4+ years experience About Us: Branding Brand launched in 2008 as an interactive marketing firm and quickly evolved into the largest and fastest-growing provider of mobile commerce apps and sites for retailers.
