About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Cardiac Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Days Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Yes Certifications: BLS & ACLS required Must-Have: Ability to read strips and be comfortable with cardiac patients Description: Unit has 43 beds, with a mix of semi-private and private rooms. Average nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5 but can flex up to 1:6. Candidates must be able to read telemetry strips. Registered Nurses are required to titrate specific medications. Heparin is the only drip that requires titration, while others are set rates. Monitor techs are available on the unit. Charge Nurse is typically available, but may take a patient assignment during busy times. Patient Care Technicians are present, with a goal ratio of 1:8 but can flex up to 1:12-18 depending on call-offs. Duties for nursing staff include performing EKGs and managing ADLs. Occasional use of Bipap and Cpap for supportive therapy may arise. All shifts are 12 hours, from either 0700-1930 or 1900-0730. Self-scheduling is permitted, with accommodations for block scheduling if unit needs are met. Weekend requirement is every other weekend for travelers, while permanent staff typically work every third weekend. Holiday rotation is in place for permanent staff; travelers may be required to work holidays as needed. Call or standby may occur but is rare and stipulated in the contract. Travelers may be floated to other areas within the hospital, with assignments based on skill level. Scrub color required is royal blue, with specific dress code guidelines in place. New staff will receive one day of computer training followed by a day of shadowing a preceptor. Teamwork is essential on this unit, with a fast-paced environment featuring multiple discharges and admissions daily. Registered Nurses are responsible for their own admissions and discharges, but can seek help if needed. A unit clerk is available to assist with administrative tasks. This unit is open to teaching and supports new graduates in their transition.
